BSB: Ole Miss visits Athens for weekend series
The 23rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs begin a Southeastern Conference series with Ole Miss today with first pitch slated for 6:02 p.m. on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
The Bulldogs (27-9, 7-8 SEC) and the Rebels (20-16, 5-10) did not play a midweek game. Last weekend, Georgia claimed a home series over Missouri 2-1 while the Rebels did the same at home against Mississippi State. The entire SEC series will be streamed on SECN+ and will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network. Saturday will be the first “Foley Fest” of the season, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Rutherford Street (which will be closed starting at 10:45 am to thru traffic), featuring live music, face painting, food trucks, inflatables and more fun activities.
Georgia ranks second nationally with 94 home runs and a .448 on base percentage. The Bulldogs are batting .321 with a .626 slugging percentage (third nationally). The team ERA is 5.36 and team fielding percentage is .972. Ole Miss enters the series batting .273 with 51 home runs, a .459 slugging percentage and .400 on base percentage. The Rebels own a 5.75 ERA and a .966 fielding percentage.
The Bulldog offense is headlined by sophomore All-America Charlie Condon. He leads the NCAA with a .482 batting average, 24 home runs, a 1.109 slugging percentage and 152 total bases. He is second with a .586 on base percentage and 12th in RBI with 52. Senior Corey Collins is enjoying a career-year at .388-12-33 and ranks third nationally in on base percentage at .582. The Rebels top hitters are Ethan Lege (.354-11-36) and Andrew Fischer (.293-13-35).
Series History: The Rebels lead the series 50-41 dating to 1923. The teams met last year in Oxford with Ole Miss claiming a series 2-1. In fact, the Rebels have won the past five series over Georgia including their last visit to Athens in 2021 (2-1). Georgia last won a series over Ole Miss in 2012 in Athens (2-1).
Starting Rotation: Georgia’s rotation for the Ole Miss series will feature sophomore right-hander Leighton Finley (2-1, 4.96 ERA) on Friday and graduate right-hander Christian Mracna (3-2, 4.80 ERA) on Saturday. The Rebels will counter with junior RHP Riley Maddox (2-4, 4.97 ERA) in game one and sophomore LHP Liam Doyle (2-2, 6.53 ERA) in game two. Both teams are TBA for Sunday.
