Key Quote

Head Coach Drake Bernstein

On the team’s performance…

“We talked a little bit – it may not have been our cleanest doubles today, but in the postseason, this whole thing turns into if you can find a way to make it happen. We did terrific today at one and three doubles. In terms of measuring progress throughout the year, I’m not sure if we’d be able to do that in February. It shows where this team has come from then to now.”

Key Quotes

Fernando Gonzalez

On his offensive production lately…

“Just trying to help the team. Ultimately if I can be a really good defensive catcher and if I can help the team with the bat as well, I think it’s going to put me out there in the lineup and win some more games.”

Slate Alford

On this lineup being able to go one through nine…

“It’s huge. Up and down, I’ve said it before but I think we’re the best in the country. We just proved it again tonight.”

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson

On Slate Alford’s performance tonight…

“I can’t say enough about Slate [Alford] and his work ethic and what he does every day. This guy cares, obviously they all care, but he’s taking countless swings. Slate and Coach Coggin were even in that cage again this morning early, and then before we took batting practice. He’s been working extremely hard this week. I thought he had a good weekend last weekend if you go back and look. He’s been putting in a lot of time and a lot of effort. As I’ve said a lot before, when guys are putting in that kind of time, work, and focus, and they go out and have success, it doesn’t surprise me.”

Key Quotes

Head Coach Tony Baldwin

On the team’s performance this evening…

“It’s disappointing. We’ve played really good defense all year, and tonight, we didn’t get it done on that side of the ball. Ultimately, it put us in a hole where we had to try and climb out of it, and we didn’t string together enough at-bats to do that. Again, I’m disappointed in the outcome. I still believe that we have a really good team, and we’re going to come out and fight like hell tomorrow.”

GYM: Georgia begins search for new head coach

Courtney Kupets Carter will not return as head coach of the Georgia gymnastics program, J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks announced Friday.

“We want to thank Courtney for her leadership of our gymnastics program over the past seven seasons,” Brooks said. “These are always difficult decisions, but this one was especially tough because of what Courtney and her family mean to the University of Georgia. She is among the greatest Bulldog student-athletes of all time, and her many accomplishments and accolades will be remembered for years to come. At this time, we feel it is in the best interest of our gymnastics program to make a change in leadership as we pursue SEC and national championships.”

Kupets Carter was the eighth head coach in Georgia gymnastics history. Under her leadership, seven GymDogs earned 22 All-America honors and 14 were named to the All-Southeastern Conference team.

As a student-athlete at Georgia from 2006-09, Kupets Carter put together the most illustrious career in collegiate gymnastics history. She was the first gymnast to win individual championships on all four events and the all-around title, while winning nine NCAA individual titles and earning an impressive 15 All-America distinctions. Georgia captured four team national titles during her time as an athlete.

A national search for Georgia’s next head coach will begin immediately.
