Nick Chubb’s big payday
Nick Chubb has served out his rookie contract and received an extension from the Browns:
“The Browns heeded Kareem Hunt’s pleas to “please pay that man,’’ meaning his good friend and fellow running back Nick Chubb.
They agreed with Chubb, 25, on a three-year contract extension Saturday worth $36.6 million, including $30 million in total guarantees, cleveland.com has confirmed. The deal includes $20 million fully guaranteed. Josina Anderson first reported it was close, and sources told cleveland.com they’ve closing in on it for about three days.”

Olympic Golf: Sepp Straka Finishees in Top 10
Former Georgia golfer Sepp Straka finished tied for 10th in the Olympics on Sunday at Kasumigaseki Country Club.
Representing Austria and with twin brother and fellow Bulldog Sam on the bag, Straka carded rounds of 63-71-68-68 for a total of 14-under 270 — four shots out of first, three in back of second, and just one shy of the seven-player playoff to determine third.
The medals went to Xander Schauffele of the United States, Rory Sabbatini of Slovakia, and C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei.
Straka’s first-round 8-under 63 matched the Olympics record shot by Marcus Fraser of Australia at the 2016 Games. The mark was eclipsed by Sabbatini as he posted a final-round 61.
Straka was the second Bulldog to qualify for the Olympics. Bubba Watson played for the United States in the Rio Games in 2016.
The Strakas were born in Vienna and played for the Austrian National Team, including a second-place squad finish in the 2011 European Boys Team Championship in the Czech Republic. After the family relocated to Valdosta, Ga., the Strakas competed for the Bulldogs between 2012 and 2016.
Sepp Straka claimed the 2018 Web.com Tour’s KC Golf Classic and became the first Austrian-born player to earn a PGA Tour card by finishing third on the money list. Straka has seven top-10 and 16 top-25 efforts in his PGA Tour career. He came in fifth in the Vivint Houston Open, ninth in the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, and 10th in the Travelers Championship earlier this season.

Olympics: Godwin, Irby Collect Bronze Medals
Current Bulldog Elija Godwin and former Georgia sprinter Lynna Irby won bronze in the 4×400-meter mixed relay during the second day of the track and field action in Tokyo, Japan, at the Olympics in Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
This marked the second of 10 days of track and field events as the Games continue.
Running in the prelims for Team USA, Irby and Godwin will now bring home the 14th and 15th all-time Olympic medals for the Georgia program. It is the fourth and fifth bronze medals for the Bulldogs and the first since Reese Hoffa won bronze in the shot put in 2012. It is also the first medal for a Bulldog in a relay since Debbie Ferguson was part of the Bahamas’ first-place 4x100m relay team at the 2000 Games.
Trevor Stewart, Kendall Ellis, Kaylin Whitney and Vernon Norwood combined in the relay’s final to finish in 3:10.22, just .01 behind the Dominican Republic’s 3:10.21. Poland secured a gold medal after combing to clock a 3:09.87. Godwin and Irby collect bronze medals from leading their relay in the prelims.
A native of Covington, Ga., Godwin set the school record in the outdoor 400m with an Olympic standard time of 44.61 this year. Scheduled to return to Athens for the 2022 seasons, Godwin ran a leg on the record-breaking 4x100m relay (38.54) that was second at this year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships and clocked a 44.21 (fastest indoor 400m relay leg in collegiate history) for the fourth-place Bulldog 4x400m relay team indoors at Nationals.
A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Irby is the No. 3 collegiate performer all-time in the outdoor 400m after she registered a 49.80 to win the 2018 NCAA title. She was third in the 400m at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships to help the women secure their first national team championship.
In the qualifying round of the long jump, Prattville, Jamaica, native Chanice Porter traveled 20 feet, 5 inches on her third and final try and took 24th overall.
Porter started her career by winning the 2013 SEC indoor long jump championship and concluded it by capturing the 2016 NCAA long jump title with a school record effort on her final collegiate attempt. The six-time First Team All-American traveled a personal record 22-2.50 at the Spec Towns Track in Athens this year to help earn her spot on Jamaica’s national team. She is at her first Olympics and will be competing in the long jump.
A native of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Greene was sixth in his heat and 37th overall in the first round of the 100m with a 10.25. The top three from all seven heats advanced to the semifinals along with the next three fastest sprinters.
Greene was one of the flag bearers in the Opening Ceremonies for his home nation after starting his collegiate career at Florida State and ending it with the Bulldogs. Greene was a three-time All-American while in Athens and also helped deliver the 2018 NCAA team championship to the Bulldogs. He was running at his second Olympics after advancing to the 100m semifinals in Rio.
