It’s UGA vs. Michigan in the Playoff
After a morning of speculation across the Bulldog internet, Georgia has been voted number by the College Football Playoff committee and will meet Michigan in the opening round of the playoff.
Dawgs will face UM in Miami and it is official.
The photo above is from the 1965 game. That win brought a ton of national attention to the program. I know it is hard to fathom these days, but Georgia was not as highly respected then. Vince Dooley’s tenure at UGA would change that.
Terrible Loss – Time to Move On
Although there were great plays made and great individual efforts given, Georgia got out-coached and out-played last night in Atlanta. It is now time for the fanbase to put this game in the rearview, just as the team will have to do.
We had accepted the idea that this Georgia team would be the one to return the Dawgs to Gloryland. This was the team that could establish its place beside the 1980 team in Bulldog lore. This was the team that we hoped (believed!) would stride into history with an unblemished record. Alabama rudely awakened us last night.
The problem for Georgia’s long-suffering fanbase is that we have to get ready – just as does the team – for the upcoming playoff. The Alabama game is over. No amount of weeping and wailing will change anything about that game. The Bulldogs lost badly, but the season is not over. Now we get to see if these Dawgs can pull themselves together and get ready to win the only game that will soothe the pain.
The 2021 Dawgs are no ordinary team. They are about to play for a national championship. Championships have incredible power to heal the sting of regular-season losses. The team and the fanbase have to get our minds right, to borrow a phrase from the coaching staff.
The team now knows what it takes. They received a graduate degree in humility last night.
