Georgia junior sprinter Matthew Boling has been named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week for the second time this season, according to a league announcement Tuesday.

Boling, a native of Houston, Texas, was most recently awarded U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men’s Athlete of the Week and SEC Men’s Runner of the Week honors two weeks ago.  After being named the SEC Freshman of the Week twice indoors in 2020, Boling garnered SEC Men’s Runner of the Week honors two separate times last year.

From the women’s side, Elena Kulichenko and Kenondra Davis have also earned SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week honors in 2022 for Georgia.

Boling continued his 2022 streak of going undefeated in the 60-meter dash, 200m, 4x400m relay, and long jump over the weekend at the Razorback Invitational.  He clocked a national leading and meet record time of 20.27 to win the 200m with the No. 16 all-time collegiate performance.

Boling also ran the opening leg of the winning 4x400m relay with a 45.33 split as the Bulldogs set a school record with a 3:04.07.  This ranks third on this year’s national list and is No. 10 on the all-time collegiate performer’s list.  In addition, he soared 8.05 meters (26 feet, 5 inches) in the long jump to grab top honors.

The University of Georgia softball program will begin the 2022 season ranked No. 12 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Preseason Top 25 Poll.

Additionally, Georgia is ranked No. 19 in the preseason USA Softball/ESPN and D1 Softball polls as well as No. 18 in the Softball America Top 25. Southeastern Conference head coaches voted Georgia to finish tied for seventh in 2022 in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll released Monday, Jan. 31 by the league.

Several Bulldogs have been recognized individually this preseason. Senior first baseman Lacey Fincher (Tanner Williams, Ala.) earned top 100 college player rankings from Extra Inning Softball and Softball America. A pair of freshmen have also garnered national attention going into their rookie campaigns. Kylie Macy (Grayson, Ga.) was named a Top 75 Impact Freshman by D1 Softball while Lyndi Rae Davis (Calhoun, Ga.) was one of five freshmen identified as a Top SEC Newcomer to Watch in 2022 by Softball America.

The 2022 campaign will be the first under the direction of head coach Tony Baldwin. Baldwin, who enters his 10th season with the Bulldogs, was promoted to head coach in June. The Bulldogs concluded last season on a remarkable run to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, the program’s fifth appearance, after finishing 11th in the SEC.

Georgia will open the Baldwin era Feb. 10 in Orlando, Florida when the Bulldogs take on UCF to open the Black and Gold Classic.
