WTEN: Georgia Knocks Off Auburn in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships

 EVANSTON, Ill. — The No. 1 Georgia women’s tennis team knocked off No. 10 Auburn, 4-1, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships quarterfinal at the Combe Tennis Center on Saturday.

  • The Bulldogs now leads the all-time series 59-9 against the Tigers.
  • In doubles, #57 Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry struck first with a 6-4 victory over Ava Esposito Cogan and Maria Garcia on court three. The duo of Dasha Vidmanova and Mell Reasco later secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over #12 DJ Bennett and Ava Hrastar on court one.
  • In singles, #90 Guillermina Grant set the tone early and never looked back, taking down Esposito Cogan, 6-2, 6-3, on court five to double Georgia’s lead.
  • #37 Anastasiia Lopata followed up with a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 win over #116 Hrastar on court two to put the Bulldogs one point away from victory.
  • Despite Georgia dropping court three, Sofia Rojas capped off the evening with a 6-3, 7-6(2) win over Alice Battesti on court six to secure the match for the Bulldogs.

ORLANDO – The 12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs run-ruled the James Madison Dukes Saturday in Orlando at the UCF Softball Complex, 10-0 in five innings.

Georgia climbs to 4-0 on opening weekend.

FAST FACTS

  • Senior Rachel Gibson made her season debut in the circle, just her second career start. She pitched a career-long 4.0 innings en route to her first-career win. She tallied four strikeouts and allowed just three hits with no walks.
  • Georgia’s offense scattered a season-high 10 runs on a season-high 12 hits. Sarah Gordon, Lyndi Rae Davis, Tyah Charlton, and Marisa Miller all had two hits each.
  • Miller tied career-bests with two hits and three RBI. Freshman Charlton recorded her first multi-hit game in her first career start.
  • The Bulldogs plated five runs in the first inning. It was the third time in four games the Bulldogs scored at least five runs in the opening inning. Junior Miller provided the big hit in the inning, a two-RBI single, to bring the lead to 5-0.
  • A total of 14 position players got in Saturday’s game, and all had a plate appearance.
