What A Day in New Orleans!
I’m still unsure what to say about the events that unfolded early yesterday in New Orleans. Of course, no cause justifies killing innocent people; there is nothing more to say about that.
My intern and I awakened before dawn, both of us having retired early after traveling to New Orleans. As we were catching up on the previous day’s social media posts, Will Hearn (BI intern and UGA student) noticed a post about a shooting in the French Quarter. We removed the window covering to reveal the scene in the photo above.
Even though we were just a couple of blocks from the intersection of Canal and Bourbon, we had no more information about the incident than the rest of the world. As we moved through the morning and the terrible results of the massacre were revealed, Will and I speculated about the game being postponed or moved, but local news assured us that the game would go on.
Of course, the game was postponed until today at 3 PM local time.
For me, this hit in a very similar way as the World Trade Center.
Pray for peace.
