Sweet Sixteen: Dawgs Named to 2024 Preseason Media Days All-SEC Team

Sixteen Bulldogs, including a league high six on the First Team, were included on the 2024 Preseason Media Days All-Southeastern Conference Team, according to a league announcement Friday.

In addition, Georgia is picked to be crowned SEC champion on Dec. 7 in Atlanta.  This will mark the first season since 1991 with no divisions in the league.  The participants of the SEC Championship Game will be determined during the eight-game regular season conference schedule as the teams with the two best overall SEC winning percentages.

Senior quarterback Carson Beck, junior running back Trevor Etienne, senior offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, senior defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse, junior linebacker Mykel Williams and junior safety Malaki Starks were named to the First Team.

Second Team Bulldog selections included senior offensive lineman Xavier Truss, junior offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild, senior linebacker Smael Mondon Jr., junior punter Brett Thorson and sophomore receiver/returner Dillon Bell.  Junior defensive back Daylen Everette, senior receiver Dominic Lovett, junior tight end Oscar Delp and redshirt sophomore Earnest Greene III concluded Georgia’s selections after being voted to the Third Team.

33 Bulldogs to Represent Georgia at Paris Olympics

Continuing a proud Olympic tradition, 33 current, former, and future University of Georgia student-athletes will compete in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, beginning next Friday in Paris, France.

The delegation of 33 athletes will be joined by eight individuals participating in coaching, operations, media relations, and broadcasting capacities. The entire contingent will participate in 10 different sports and represent 20 different nations, including eight on Team USA.

Track and field supplies the largest block of athletes and coaches, with 22 Bulldogs heading to Paris, while swimming follows with six and tennis at three. The 2024 delegation is the second-largest in Georgia athletic history, trailing only the 36 sent to Rio in 2016 and surpassing the 30 in Tokyo in 2021.

The Paris Games begin with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26, with competition running through Sunday, Aug. 11.
