The inning started with back-to-back home runs in the fourth with long balls from sophomore Henry Allen (1-3, 2 RBI, HR) and senior Brennan Hudson (1-2, RBI, HR), marking their fourth and fifth home runs of the season, respectively. Allen’s home run was the hardest-hit ball this season at 113mph off the bat.

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson

On the offensive performance today

“There is a lot to talk about. Brennan Hudson is a guy who doesn’t get talked about enough. He’s tough. He gets the hit-by-pitches, takes his walks then hits homers. He hit that ball so hard that he lined out to first on, and they got the double play. I think about what Brennen has done. It’s easy to talk about Tre Phelps. Tre is on fire. Kolby Branch is phenomenal. Daniel Jackson continues to hit the ball really hard. Ryan Black up there at the leadoff spot is being real patient and getting on base a lot. He’s having quality at-bats. We can just keep moving down the line. Ryan Wynn, we have seen it. His batting practices have been really good. He is stacking good days together. He came out today and had a good one.”

On playing in the Georgia lineup…

“It’s fun. We have a lot of guys from different places. It’s fun to go on the field with these guys and see all different cultures and different experiences come together.”

On how Georgia has combined for just nine strikeouts in the first three games of the series…

“Just sticking to our plan, our approach. Trying to stay in the zone as much as possible. Making them work for the outs that they do get.”

#12 Caden Aoki | Gr. | RHP

On his first start of the season…

“I thought it was good. I thought it was fun. It’s exciting to go back there and start again. I enjoyed the day.”

On what he learned from his bullpen appearances that he used in his start…

“Just getting ahead of hitters and putting them away when I can. Getting those strikeouts early in the season. You want to build on that for sure.”

Fast Facts:

  • The Bulldogs have accomplished their third-consecutive 20-win campaign. This has only been achieved twice in the Georgia program’s history (1996-98 and 2014-16).
  • This win brought Georgia to the 20-win mark for the 16th time overall, but only the sixth during the regular season.
  • Five Bulldogs scored in double figures. Somto Cyril added 12 points on a 6-of-7 shooting effort from the field, Kareem Stagg posted a career-high 11 points, and Marcus “Smurf” Millender and Justin Bailey tallied 10 points apiece.

Key Quotes:

Head Coach Mike White

Opening Statement

“It’s a good win for us. I thought our turnout was nice, to celebrate our seniors and our non-seniors. Overall, it was a good atmosphere. South Carolina was really good offensively in the first half. They were really good early second half and made it really interesting, despite the fact that our first half offensively was about as sharp as we’ve been. Those guys at that program is always going to be as sold and as prepared positionally, with their attention to detail and their physicality. They make you shoot jump shots, and we struggled at the rim at times, and we made some threes. We got it going there; we passed it really well. 23 assists to six turnovers; you’re not going to get that most nights in the SEC. I liked our level of unselfishness; our attention to detail, defensively, wasn’t quite as sharp as theirs. We just made shots and any win in the SEC is a big and those guys are really capable.”

Jeremiah Wilkinson | G | So.

On what these games mean to him after playing at Cal…

“Yeah, it’s everything I could ask for. This is exactly what I wanted when I chose to come to Georgia, playing at home, having a chance to go deep in the tournament and be around great guys. And that’s exactly what it is. I love playing with this group and the fact that there’s high stakes on every game doesn’t scare me. It’s exactly what I want.”

Jake Wilkins | F | Fr.

On the amount of bench points…

“I mean, it’s really just a stay ready mentality. Always trying to be ready when your number’s called. Really just staying locked into what the coaches are saying and what the coaches are doing. When you stay ready, you’ll play good.”
