Fast Facts

• Georgia trailed 3-0 after six innings before pushing across single runs in the seventh and eighth to set up Black’s two-run walk-off blast for his third home run of the season. It was the first walk-off home run by the Bulldogs this season and first since Kolby Branch’s grand slam over Alabama last year.

• Georgia (13-1) swept the four-game set with the Eagles with four walk-offs including one of them a run-rule.

• Sophomore Jordan Stephens pitched the final 1.1 innings to improve to 2-0 and touched 99 miles per hour.

• Sophomore Tre Phelps extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI-single. He scored the tying run in the ninth on the Black home run as he was aboard after being hit by a pitch.

• Junior JT Quinn was on a pitch count and provided two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in a start. He was followed by Justin Byrd (2.1 IP, 0R, 4K), Tyler McLoughlin, Paul Farley and then Stephens.

Key Quotes

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson

On having multiple players that can make big plays in key moments…

“Ryan (Black) works really hard at his game, and we have done a lot with him since he has been here. He is able to turn on that ball, and I told Kevin (Knight) if they make a mistake with the cutter in the black, he is going to send it to the seats. He saw his pitch up and just hammered it.”

On how close games can prepare the team for conference play

“I think we are still learning a lot. I schedule so many games early to try to figure out a lot about our team, so I think we are getting there.”

#2 Ryan Black | Jr. | INF

On the dynamic of the team winning bottom of the ninth games…

“We are gritty. We face adversity all the time. Coming in every day, we put our heads down and go to work.”

On his game-winning at bat…

“The at-bat before, everything was at the bottom of the zone. My approach was to get him up and get a pitch that I can drive up in the zone. He did that, and I left it out of here. It’s exciting. I really have no words for it.”

On the walk-off celebration…

“It is amazing. I am new to this school, so the run out to centerfield is new to me. I love this team. I enjoy it.”

Key Quotes:
Head Coach Drake Bernstein
On today’s match:
“I thought that we came out in the doubles really good from the start of the match. Sometimes it can be distracting if you only have two doubles matches going on, but it felt like the players that weren’t playing brought a lot of energy. It felt pretty normal and allowed those other two teams to go out and do their thing and get a quick doubles point. Then the game carried momentum into singles. Happy with our top three courts, those are the only ones I really saw today. [Anastasiia Lopata] cleaned, start to finish. Mell [Reasco] to get one in the bank. She’s been battling, she’s getting better every week and for her to get a result that validates that, love to see that. Another day for the Dawgs getting a win in Athens.”

Guillermina Grant | Sr.
On today’s match:
“I think we did a really good job. Everyone was playing really good. We came up in doubles with a lot of energy and I think we did a pretty good job. Me and Dasha [Vidmanova] were playing super solid doubles and then it was great to see Mell [Reasco] finishing. She has been working really hard and it’s really good to see great things happening to her.”
