Last year, Georgia headed to Lexington for the SEC opening series and was swept by the Wildcats. The Bulldogs rebounded to go 17-13 in league play while Kentucky won a share of the SEC with a 22-7 mark. Overall, Georgia leads the UK series 144-104-1 in records dating to 1921. Georgia assistants Will Coggin and Nick Ammirati once served on Kentucky’s staff under coach Nick Mingione. FLOOR ON FIRE
The GymDogs have momentum on the floor rotation, capturing a season-high 39.500 in Baton Rouge. Georgia soared seven spots in the ranking to No. 11 nationally in the event after their meet-nine performance.
This effort was championed by So. Lily Smith’s career-high 9.975 as well as Fr. Nyla Aquino’s third consecutive 9.925 on floor. Smith and Aquino are ranked No. 19 and No. 26 in the individual event ranking, respectively.
DEFENDING THE STEG
The Georgia Gymnastics team’s victory over Kentucky marked the first time since 2017 that the program has remained undefeated at home for the first four meets of the season.
So. Lily Smith clinched the win for the Bulldogs, anchoring on floor to a 9.925 and matching the team’s then season high of 49.450 in the event. Smith also met her career and season highs on beam with a 9.950 against the Wildcats, capturing first place on the apparatus.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
The GymDogs broke into the top 10 of the Road to Nationals rankings for the first time since the 2020 season, based on NQS, coming in at No. 9 in week eight. After dropping to No. 10 in week nine, the Georgia team is back to No. 9 and places fifth among SEC competitors on the week of their final regular season meet.
The Bulldogs competed a season-high 197.350 in Missouri followed by a 197.200 against Kentucky and a 197.175 at LSU, making it their fifth straight week to pass the 197.000 benchmark. The team now has an NQS of 197.135 overall.
SUCCESS ON THE FOUR INCH STAGE
The Bulldogs’ seventh meet brought immense accomplishment on the beam rotation, leading the team to capture a new season high of 49.550 in the event. This score ties for the fifth highest single meet beam score in Georgia Gymnastics history, making it the highest team score in the event since the 2019 season.
This success was championed by So. Anya Turner who secured a 9.975, earning the honor of SEC Specialist of the Week for her career-high routine. Turner also captured the highest individual routine score received by any GymDog in any event this season in Missouri.

A Look at What’s Ahead
Georgia returns home to open a five-game home stretch beginning Wednesday, March 19 when Georgia State rolls into Athens. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Jack Turner Stadium. The Bulldogs then welcome No. 4 LSU to Athens for a weekend series beginning Friday, March 21.
Let’s Recap
Esther White’s solo home run in bottom of the sixth inning propelled Georgia to a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening. Lilli Backes earned the win in the circle for the Bulldogs to improve to 9-1 on the season. The senior struck out six while earning her second shutout of the year. White blasted a solo shot over the center field wall with two outs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless draw between the Bulldogs and Eagles. The freshman provided Georgia’s lone hit and run while tallying her third home run of the season. Backes struck out Georgia Southern’s Delanie Thames with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to seal the Bulldogs’ win.
Goodwin Paces the Offense
Through the first month of the season, junior Jaydyn Goodwin is having a career year so far. She leads the team with a .395 batting average, .750 slugging, 24 runs, 30 hits, five home runs, four triples, and 57 total bases and is second on the team with 24 RBI. Goodwin has registered the most multi-hit games (9) and multi-RBI games (8).
Starting Strong
41 of Georgia’s 145 runs (28 percent) have come in the first inning. The Bulldogs have scored five or more runs in the first inning six times. UGA has pushed a run across in the first inning in 13 games, going 12-1 in those games.
Packing The Jack
Georgia fans came out strong for last weekend’s Tennessee series, packing Jack Turner Stadium and recording two top-10 attendances. Saturday’s crowd of 2,316 was the fourth largest in stadium history. Sunday’s game drew 2,198. In all, 6,585 came out for the Bulldogs and Lady Vols series. That number sets a new series attendance record at Jack Turner Stadium beating out the previous record of 6,226 against No. 2 Florida in 2018.
