BASEBALL: Dawgs Open SEC Play with Mississippi State Series Tonight
The No. 18 Georgia Bulldogs open Southeastern Conference action Friday night with defending national champion No. 24 Mississippi State coming to sold out Foley Field. First pitch is set for 7:02 p.m., and the game will be televised on the SEC Network and available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
Georgia (14-3, 0-0 SEC), under the direction of Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin, has won five in a row. MSU (11-7, 0-0 SEC), led by Chris Lemonis, has reeled off four straight victories. MSU leads the series with the Bulldogs 49-45 in available records. The teams last met in 2019 when MSU swept an SEC series in Starkville. MSU’s last trip to Athens came in 2017, and the home Bulldogs claimed the series 2-1. Georgia is batting .304 with 19 home runs on the year while posting a 3.36 ERA and a .974 Fielding Percentage. MSU is hitting .269 with 25 home runs while sporting a 4.20 ERA and a .988 Fielding Percentage.
Georgia graduate CF Ben Anderson (.373-3-12) and graduate SS Cole Tate (.372-1-9) lead the regulars. Anderson has reached base in 15 straight games as he ranks among the SEC leaders with a .548 OB% plus a team-high 16 walks. Tate ranks among the SEC leaders with 28 hits. Sophomore C/DH Corey Collins (.352-6-15) is tied for third in the SEC with six home runs and is sixth in the league with a .796 SLG%. He enters SEC play with a 15-game on base streak including a seven-game hitting streak. MSU’s run producers include freshman Hunter Hines (.328-5-20), sophomore Kellum Clark (.280-5-16) and junior Logan Tanner (.290-2-22).
Junior RHP Jonathan Cannon (3-1, 2.39 ERA) headlines the pitching staff and leads the SEC with 26.1 innings pitched. Sophomore LHP Luke Wagner is the national leader in victories at 5-0. A key member of the bullpen, he has notched a victory in all five of his relief appearances while posting a 0.73 ERA in 12.1 innings with 17 Ks. Sophomore LHP Liam Sullivan (2-1, 3.68 ERA) has served as the No. 2 starter. Sullivan will miss his turn in the rotation this Saturday to rest. Wagner will fill that spot. Redshirt sophomore RHP Garrett Brown (0-0, 5.40) will get the start on Sunday. Both teams have lost key members of their starting rotation this season due to injuries. Saturday’s game will begin at 2 p.m. (SECN+) and Sunday will start at noon (SEC Network).

The 16th-ranked Georgia softball team will host its final home tournament of the season at Jack Turner Stadium this weekend, hosting the UGA Classic. Dartmouth, Illinois, and Mercer will come to Athens for the eight-game tournament.
Georgia will take on Dartmouth Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday’s tilt features Georgia taking on Illinois and Mercer before a rematch with Dartmouth on Sunday to end the UGA Classic.

A trio of Lady Bulldogs earn All-SEC Accolades
» A trio of Lady Bulldogs and Georgia natives — Jenna Staiti, Que Morrison and Mikayla Coombs — earned All-Southeastern Conference postseason honors.
Staiti garnered first-team All-SEC accolades, while Morrison was named second team All-SEC and landed on the league’s All-Defensive squad. Coombs was named the conference’s Scholar Athlete of the Year, marking the third time under head coach Joni Taylor a Georgia player has earned that distinction.
A native of Cumming, Ga., Staiti is one of just 27 student-athletes in program history to boast first-team honors. Morrison, who hails from Riverdale, Ga., joins Caliya Robinson as the only three-peat All-Defensive Team selections. Coombs, from Buford, Ga., joins Marjorie Butler (2016) and Haley Clark (2018) as Georgia’s Scholar Athletes of the Year.

The Bulldogs
Trent Bryde, Blake Croyder, Mathis Debru, Erik Grevelius, Philip Henning, Britton Johnston, Tristan McCormick, Thomas Paulsell, Miguel Perez Peña, Hamish Stewart and Ethan Quinn make up the roster for the Georgia Bulldogs for the 2021-22 season.
Georgia reappeared at the No.8 spot in the team rankings for the second week in a row in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Ranking released Wednesday, March 16.
Several Georgia men’s tennis players were featured in the latest ITA National Rankings for singles and doubles that was released Wednesday, March 9.
Four Bulldogs appear in the singles rankings and four pairs in the doubles rankings. Graduate transfer Stewart leads the pack at No.19 and fellow grad transfer Tristan McCormick rings in at No.31. 2020 ITA All-American senior Philip Henning takes the No.40 spot and four-time ITA All-American senior Trent Bryde rounds out the pack at No.84.
For doubles, Bryde and Henning are ranked No.27, Stewart and McCormick are No.55, Henning and Stewart are the No.58-ranked doubles pair and senior Blake Croyder and junior Erik Grevelius take the No.62-ranking.
