MGOLF: Dawgs Move Into First at Linger Longer Invitational
The No. 10-ranked Georgia men’s golf team moved into first place in the Linger Longer Invitational on Monday.
Playing Great Waters Golf Course’s par-72, 7,436-yard layout, the Bulldogs fired a 12-under 276 to move to 20-under 556 for the tournament. Georgia is tied after two rounds with Vanderbilt, and they are eight clear of Florida.
Freshman Maxwell Ford paced the Bulldogs in the second round with a 4-under 68. Ford made eagle on the par-5, 543-yard 18th and posted five birdies. Senior Trent Phillips signed for a 3-under 69 as he made five birdies, including the two finishing holes. Junior Ben van Wyk posted a 3-under 69 with a clean card showing three birdies, and junior Nicolas Cassidy recorded a 2-under 70 with two front-nine eagles and a birdie on the last hole. Freshman Buck Brumlow had the Bulldogs’ non-counting round of 1-under 71.
After opening the day tied for first, van Wyk slipped to second at 8-under 136, three shy of Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson. Ford moved to fifth at 6-under 138, followed by Phillips in eighth at 4-under 140, and Cassidy in 16th at 2-under 142. Brumlow landed at 10-over 154.
Playing as individuals, senior Will Kahlstorf fired a 1-under 71, followed by senior Eli Scott with a 2-over 74, junior Connor Creasy with a 3-over 75, and redshirt freshman JT Herman with a 5-over 77. Scott moved to 1-over 145, while Kahlstorf went to 5-over 149, Creasy to 7-over 151, and Herman to 16-over 160.

BASEBALL: UGA Returns to Coolray Field for Georgia State Contest
The No. 17 Georgia Bulldogs return to Coolray Field Tuesday for a game against Georgia State. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and the game will be available only on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
The Bulldogs are 16-4 (2-1 SEC) after winning a home series against defending national champion Miss. State to open SEC play. The Bulldogs saw their seven-game winning streak end Sunday when MSU salvaged the final game of the series.
Ga. State (14-6) opted to play their home game with Georgia at Coolray Field, home of the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers. Earlier this season, Georgia posted an 12-3 win over Georgia Tech at Coolray Field. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series with Ga. State 44-8 and has won the past six meetings. The Panthers will visit Foley Field on April 26 for a single game. The Panthers have won five straight including a home sweep of Little Rock this past weekend and during this stretch also knocked off No. 15 Clemson in Clemson.
Georgia will start freshman RHP Coleman Willis (1-0, 2.45 ERA) while the Panthers counter with sophomore RHP Mason Patel (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.2 IP).
Georgia is batting .297 with 22 home runs on the year while posting a 4.22 ERA and a .976 Fielding Percentage. Graduate CF Ben Anderson (.344-4-16) and sophomore C/DH Corey Collins (359-7-19) have reached base in 18 straight games. Graduate SS Cole Tate leads the team in batting at .368 while his twin graduate OF Connor Tate (.315-3-15) is starting to heat up. Connor hit .462 (6-for-13) two doubles, two home runs and six RBI last week. Cole ranks third in the SEC with 32 hits while Collins is sixth in home runs, walks (17) and slugging percentage (.781). Anderson is third in the SEC in on base percentage at .511 and fourth in walks with 18.
In case you missed it Monday, Bulldog junior right-hander Jonathan Cannon was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career. A 6-6, 213-pound native of Alpharetta, Ga., he pitched eight scoreless innings in an 11-0 win over defending national champion No. 24 Mississippi State this past Friday at Foley Field. He carried a perfect game to the fifth and finished with a three-hitter, no walks and nine strikeouts. A 2022 preseason All-America and All-SEC selection, Cannon improved to 4-1, 1.83 ERA on the season with 37 strikeouts and just one walk (that was intentional) in an SEC-leading 34.1 innings.

Jonathan Cannon Named SEC Pitcher of the Week
University of Georgia junior right-hander Jonathan Cannon has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
A 6-6, 213-pound native of Alpharetta, Ga., Cannon pitched eight scoreless innings in an 11-0 win over defending national champion No. 24 Mississippi State this past Friday at Foley Field. He carried a perfect game to the fifth and finished with a three-hitter, no walks and nine strikeouts.
A 2022 preseason All-America and All-SEC selection, Cannon improved to 4-1, 1.83 ERA on the season with 37 strikeouts and just one walk (that was intentional) in an SEC-leading 34.1 innings. He ranks third nationally in Strikeout/Walk ratio, Walks Allowed and eighth in WHIP at .61.
He has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors now three times in his career including twice this season. An Academic All-SEC student, Cannon is majoring in real estate. In his Bulldog career, Cannon is 11-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 17 starts.
The 17th-ranked Bulldogs (16-4) return to action Tuesday in Lawrenceville when they face Georgia State (14-6) at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). First pitch will be at 6:05 p.m., and the game only will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
