BSB: Dawgs Sweep Tide with 10-5 Sunday Win
Senior Corey Collins capped a monster week with two more home runs and four RBI Sunday to lead Georgia to a 10-5 win and complete a sweep No. 8 Alabama in front of a crowd of 3,724 at Foley Field.
Collins batted .647 (11-for-17) with six home runs and 13 RBI in four games as the Bulldogs improved to 21-4 overall, 3-3 in the SEC. Alabama dropped to 18-5, 2-3 SEC.
For the third time this week, Collins led off a game with a home run. It was his ninth home run of the season. Alabama tied the game in the second on a run-scoring double by Will Hodo and looked to take a lead after putting runners at the corners with one out for the top of the order. However, graduate Christian Mracna got Gage Miller, the SEC’s second leading hitter, to pop out and then struck out TJ McCants after a spirited 10-pitch at bat. Georgia reclaimed a 2-1 lead when graduate Paul Toetz led off the second with his second home run. Mracna pitched around a leadoff double in the third to maintain the one-run advantage.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, graduate Dylan Goldstein connected for a two-run home run to make it 4-1 Bulldogs. It was his ninth home run this season. In the fourth, Kolby Branch led off with a single, stole second and scored on a double by junior Henry Hunter for a 5-1 lead. Sebastian Murillo bunted Hunter to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Collins. In the fifth, Alabama loaded the bases with two outs when Georgia lifted Mracna in favor of DJ Radtke. After falling behind Mason Swinney 2-0, the sophomore right-hander came back to strike him out to end the threat. Collins added a sacrifice fly to score Hunter in the sixth for a 7-1 lead. Hunter had reached on a single, advanced to second on a balk and made it to third with his first stolen base of the year. After an intentional walk to Charlie Condon, the Bulldogs executed a double steal and Slate Alford delivered a two-out, two-run single to make it 9-1. Alabama cut it to 9-4 in the seventh on a three-run home run by Kade Snell. Collins responded with his second home run of the day, a 354-foot blast to right for a 10-4 lead in the eighth. The Crimson Tide added a run in the ninth and loaded the bases before Georgia looked to graduate Brian Zeldin who secured the final out for his fourth save. Mracna is now 3-1 on the year after Sunday’s win.
“Alabama is a really good team, and we’re good,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Wes Johnson. “This league is a ten-round fight. It’s so hard on the road to win. It was good to get back home, and when you’re home, it is so important to take care of business no matter who you’re playing. This series win is big. The challenge is to stay hungry in this league. If you think you’re full or satisfied, that’s when you can get swept. We have to stay hungry and continue to understand that we need to get better every day.”
Johnson added that Collins showed phenomenal plate discipline all season including since moving to the leadoff spot in the order.
“When you have a guy like Corey hitting in front of Charlie Condon, good things happen.”
Condon enjoyed a stellar week, batting .500 (8-for-16) with seven runs scored, four home runs and eight RBI. He also picked up his first two stolen bases of the season on Sunday.
“After the Kentucky weekend, we had a great attitude at practice on Monday,” said Collins. “We had a great midweek game and coach preaches moving on and being consistent. We really saw that this week. It’s great to get a sweep in the SEC.”
Georgia returns to action Tuesday against Mercer at Foley Field. First pitch will be at 5:02 p.m., and the game will be available on SECN+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

MBB: Dawgs keeps season alive with a 72-88 win over Wake
The Georgia men’s basketball team notched its second postseason victory to keep its season alive as it knocked off the No. 1 seed Wake Forest 72-66 in the 2024 National Invitational Tournament second round at the LJVM Coliseum on Sunday.
Justin Hill led the Bulldogs (19-16, 6-12 SEC) in scoring with a new season high of 21 points. Noah Thomasson added 19 points, going 5-for-8 from behind the arc while Dylan James posted a career-high in scoring with 14 points and four 3-pointers made. Georgia shot the three at a 52 percent clip and tallied 23 points off the bench. After taking the lead at 16-14, the Bulldogs never surrendered the advantage, handing Wake Forest its second home loss of the season.
Drawn at 14 with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, the Bulldogs began to pull away with a lead. Georgia then sparked a 17-2 run powered by eight consecutive points from Hill before Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe and Thomasson combined for another eight points. The Bulldogs shot 52 percent from the field in the first half as they went into the locker room up 39-24. Georgia maintained its scoring prowess to open the second half, going on a 10-4 run before the first media timeout. Wake Forest drew itself back into the game with a pair of scores from Kevin Miller and Efton Reid followed by four free throws, cutting the deficit to 11 with 12:55 left in the game. The Bulldogs worked to maintain the advantage as James 3-pointer gave Georgia a 10-point lead with 3:26 left to play. The Demon Deacons closed the gap to four points with under a minute to play, but Hill and Thomasson went 4-6 from the free throw line to secure the Bulldogs victory and advance to the next round.
Georgia will face the No. 2 seed Ohio State in the NIT Quarterfinals, with the matchup set to tip off on Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

SB: Georgia Sweeps Ole Miss with 4-1 Sunday Win
The fifth-ranked Georgia softball team used a three-run seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Ole Miss 4-1 on Sunday, sweeping the road series at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Georgia improves to 27-4 on the season and 5-1 in SEC play.
Sara Mosley and Dallis Goodnight each had two hits, combining for four of Georgia’s five hits in the series finale.
Shelby Walters pitched two innings in her start, allowing the lone Rebel (20-11, 3-6) run on two hits. Madison Kerpics pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen, striking out two. Lilli Backes (12-1) earned the victory, pitching the final three innings.
A defensive miscue by the Bulldogs allowed an Ole Miss to score in the bottom of the opening inning, 1-0. Walters stranded a runner on second to limit the early damage.
The Bulldogs knotted the game on a bases-loaded walk to Jaydyn Goodwin in the third, 1-1.
After a 1-1 draw for three innings, Georgia plated three runs in the seventh to break the tie. With bases loaded, Mosley singled to right, putting Georgia in front 2-1. Groundouts by Jayda Kearney and Sydney Kuma each plated a run, adding key insurance runs late in the game, 4-1.
Backes retired the Rebels in order in the seventh to secure the series sweep.
On Wednesday, Georgia continues its road swing with an in-state matchup at Kennesaw State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
WTEN: Georgia singles sweep propels Dawgs to a 4-1 win over Tennessee
After dropping the doubles point to start, the No. 8 Georgia women’s tennis team swept singles action en route to a 4-1 victory over No. 22 Tennessee at Barksdale Stadium on Sunday.
The Bulldogs (12-3, 7-0 SEC) have now won 10-straight matches on the season and improved to 55-9 all-time against the Lady Volunteers (11-6, 3-4 SEC), winning each of the last 16 meetings between both programs.
“Today was a great team effort coming out taking six first sets after losing a tough doubles point,” said head coach Drake Bernstein. “We really never looked back once singles got started.”
Opening the afternoon with doubles, Georgia fell behind early as it dropped the doubles point.
After the Bulldogs fell 6-3 on court three, the No. 16 tandem of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova leveled the courts with a 6-4 victory over No. 49 Esther Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg (Tennessee) on court two.
Despite a late push, Georgia fell on court one as Tennessee led 1-0 heading into singles.
The Bulldogs responded in dominant fashion early as they took first sets across all six courts.
No. 75 Mell Reasco struck first in singles for Georgia as she took a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set victory over Wolfberg (Tennessee) on court three to level the score at 1-1.
It was not long until the Bulldogs came back for more as No. 91 Mai Nirundorn capped off a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lauren Anzalotta (Tennessee) on court six to hand Georgia its first lead of the day at 2-1.
After trailing by several games in the second set, No. 30 Alexandra Vecic came back to force a tiebreaker and win 6-4, 7-6(3) against Elza Tomase (Tennessee).
With courts one and five each sitting one game away from victory, it was Guillermina Grant who came through in the end as she secured the clinch for the Bulldogs with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 win over Adeshina (Tennessee).
“We are building some momentum as a group and are looking forward to one more weekend on the road before finishing the season out in Athens,” Bernstein said.
Georgia will head back to Athens and prepare for its last regular season road weekend where it will face No. 21 Alabama on Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m. ET in Tuscaloosa, Ala., followed by a date with No. 18 Auburn on Sunday, March 31 at 1 p.m. ET in Auburn, Ala.
