MGOLF: UGA Seeded Third in NCAA Bryan Regional
The 13th-ranked Georgia men’s golf team will begin its quest for another national championship May 16-18 in the NCAA Bryan Regional, according to an announcement made Wednesday.
The Bulldogs will be the No. 3 seed for the Regional, which will be held at Traditions Club, the home of Texas A&M’s men’s and women’s teams. Joining Georgia will be No. 1 seed Pepperdine, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Arizona, No. 7 Michigan State, No. 8 SMU, No. 9 Boise State, No. 10 Oregon State, No. 11 Colorado State, No. 12 Southeast Louisiana, and No. 13 Texas Southern.
The top five finishers from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The other Regionals are being held at OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio; Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.; PGA National Resort’s Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.; and Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
“Here we go,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “This moment right here is why we put in all the hard work. We all know there’s no margin for error at this stage. To make it to the next round, we have to continue to have vision and purpose in everything that we do. We’re looking forward to playing in Bryan. It’s a strong field, and we’ll have to be at our best once we get there.”
The Bulldogs were invited to a Regional for the 26th straight year and for the 32nd time in 33 seasons (missing in 1995 and excluding 2020 as the postseason was canceled) since the format was introduced in 1988-89. The Bulldogs have advanced from the Regional to the NCAAs 23 times. The Bulldogs will be appearing in their 25th Regional under Haack and they have moved onto the NCAAs 20 times. Haack led the Bulldogs to the 1999 and 2005 national titles, to runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2011, and to the national semifinals in 2015.
Georgia is expected to use a lineup of senior Trent Phillips, juniors Nicolas Cassidy and Ben van Wyk, and freshmen Buck Brumlow and Maxwell Ford in the Regional. That quintet won the Linger Longer Invitational in March.
