Corey Collins, DH

On his comfortability at the plate…

“It is something that has stayed the same the whole time, just trying to get the ball and find something I can do damage with.  Today, I got two (home runs). I put some good swings on them. If you’re not going to give it to me, then I will take it. We will go from there for the guy behind me.”

Ike Cousins Head Coach Wes Johnson

On bouncing back after a tough extra-innings loss…

“It’s like I tell our guys. Tomorrow’s just another game. I haven’t determined a starter yet, but whoever that is needs to come out at 2 o’clock and attack the strike zone. We need to get in the box tomorrow against Jac Caglianone, not chase, stay within ourselves and our approach against him, and get off good swings. If we do, the scoreboard and everything else will start to take care of itself.”

Key Quotes

Head Coach Tony Baldwin

On the team’s performance…

“Really pleased with the mindset that we had. I thought the defense was really sharp. Madison [Kerpics] controlled things in the circle, and, you know, turning the double plays, and getting a couple lead runners, things that we’ve been working on. It was really great to see our team put that into play. I thought our hitters did a good job of controlling the strike zone and then Sara [Mosley] certainly got the big hit too, you know, kind of take some of the pressure off and just let us play softball the rest of the game. So, really pleased with that performance. UNCW has a good team. They’re well coached. The pitchers do a good job, and thankful to be moving on.”

On how the team’s offensive mindset showed up today…

“We’ve had a really good week of practice, from when we got back from the SEC tournament. We practiced well leading up to the SEC Tournament even though that was during finals — kind of odd — but when we came back, the practices had really been intentional. The players have done a really good job investing in what we’re trying to get accomplished. And then, just to see them carry that kind of freedom and discipline into the box was big today and certainly it’s going to be important again tomorrow.”

Sara Mosley | 5th Year

On how her grand slam in the first set the tone for the rest of the game…

“It’s awesome. Just having fun with each other and really just competing together. Just having fun and investing in each other. The outcomes are going to take care of themselves when you’re doing those things.”

Madison Kerpics | Senior

On having the four runs after the first inning…

“It’s so nice. Just having all the pressure off of me and then being able to pitch free out there. I love our offense, and they’re so good. I just love this team and when they can do that for me, it just makes you want to go out there do better.”

Head Coach Drake Bernstein: “Just really proud of this team. They’ve come so far from August, January, February to now. It’s a team that has continued to lean on each other, continued to buy in and continued to grow. We talk a lot about playing your best tennis in May late in the season, and that’s definitely where we are at. Excited for this team to get to see another day.”
