MTENNIS: Big Day for UGA at All-American Championships
The Georgia men’s tennis team won each of its three singles matches and split a pair of doubles contests to put together an impressive Day Three at the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships.
Wednesday marked the beginning of main draw singles and doubles action at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Georgia made the most of its opening day, beginning with singles wins from Trent Bryde, Philip Henning and Hamish Stewart.
No.-12 ranked Bryde took down Harvard’s Henry Schulenberg, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. No. 23-ranked Stewart ousted Virginia’s Chris Rodesch, while No. 15-ranked Henning defeated Auburn’s Tad MaClean, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Georgia came close to making it a perfect day. Henning and Stewart teamed up for a win, before Bryde and Blake Croyder narrowly lost, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9).
““Overall, it was a very impressive day for us,” associate head coach Jamie Hunt said. “Going 3-0 in singles is tough to do at this tournament, and they are excited to get after it again tomorrow. Our doubles was fantastic as well. Hamish and Phil were dominant in their match and Trent/Blake lost a close one to a very good team but played at a very high level.”
Main draw singles and doubles action continues Thursday in Tulsa. Follow Georgia tennis on Twitter (@UGAtennis) and Instagram (@ugatennis) for more updates.
