BASEBALL: Dawgs Meet Gators Tonight in Exhibition
The Georgia Bulldogs face the Florida Gators this evening in Jacksonville in a planned 10-inning exhibition at 121 Financial Ball Park. First pitch is at 6:32 p.m., and a fireworks show is planned after the game.
Georgia will be the home team against Florida this year, and both teams will feature a 10-batter lineup. Tickets are $15 and are for sale online via Ticketmaster HERE.
“I am excited to see how we look offensively against a very talented Florida team,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. “It will be good to get our freshman the experience of going on the road, playing in a different stadium with a big crowd and facing an SEC team. I like our depth and our defense has been good this fall. We have a chance to feature a deep pitching staff. We have a lot of young arms with tremendous upside to complement our veterans.”
Georgia plans to get at least nine pitchers in action Friday, with junior left-hander Jaden Woods slated to start. He made his fall debut last Saturday during an intrasquad game. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and allowed two hits, a walk, and struck out four. In 2022, Woods went 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA and three saves in 25 appearances.

Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace is now in his 38th year at the helm of the Bulldogs’ tennis program. As the nation’s winningest active women’s tennis coach, Wallace is one of only two coaches to record 750 wins in women’s tennis history. Wallace enters the 2022-23 season with 792 career victories.
ITA Southeast Region Champion
Senior Lea Ma defeated Georgia Tech’s Carol Lee 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 to win the ITA Southeast Regional Championship. The road to the championship for Ma, who was seeded third, included straight-set wins over North Florida’s Megan Forster, UCF’s Jaleesa Leslie, and the No. 13 seed Rachel Gailis (Florida). Her 5-0 run in the event also featured wins over fellow teammate and the 10th ranked freshman/newcomer in Anastasiia Lopata and the No. 1 seed Lee (ITA 16).
Dating back to 2009, Ma is the seventh Bulldog to win the Southeast Regional singles title and the second-straight Georgia player to do so – Mell Reasco won in 2021.

Swim/Dive Teams Met Florida in Athens Today
The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams return to Athens today for their traditional rivalry matchup against Florida at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The meet begins Friday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m., with live coverage of both the swimming and diving competitions streaming on SEC Network+. Results will be available on GeorgiaDogs.com and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app. Diving results will be available on DiveMeets.com. Fans are encouraged to help “Pack the Pool” with the first 200 spectators in attendance receiving free T-shirts.
For the Bulldogs and Gators, this is the 90th all-time meeting between the men’s programs, with Florida holding a 66-20-3 record. On the women’s side, this is the 38th matchup, with Georgia narrowly leading the series at 20-17. The home team has swept both meets in the last three meetings.
The 15th-ranked Georgia women (5-0, 1-0 SEC) remained unbeaten last weekend with a 176-123 victory at Florida State. Georgia tallied 11 victories with graduate Marie Schobel and seniors Jillian Barczyk and Zoie Hartman each earning two wins. Schobel is unbeaten this season in backstroke events, while Hartman has racked up six individual wins. In diving, junior Meghan Wenzel earned her fourth win of the year with a Zone cut of 309.30 on the 3-meter.
The seventh-ranked Georgia men (4-1, 1-0 SEC) notched 10 victories in their 179-121 win against No. 21 Florida State, including both relays. Junior Jake Magahey finished first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle, while seniors Dillon Downing, Ian Grum, and Zach Hils all secured wins. Freshman Kristian Pitshugin earned his first collegiate win in the 100 breaststroke with a B-cut of 53.58.
SOCCER: UGA Clinches First-Round Bye for 2022 SEC Soccer Tournament
Madison Haugen’s equalizer in the 55th minute powered the University of Georgia soccer team to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening before 726 spectators at the MSU Soccer Field.
With the tie, Georgia (11-5-2, 5-3-2 SEC) clinched a first-round bye for the 2022 SEC Soccer Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., its first bye in a traditional SEC Tournament since 2019. Georgia will its opening match of the tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex, with live coverage on SEC Network.
Thursday’s match marked only the second time this season that Georgia earned a result despite being outshot. Mississippi State (10-4-4, 4-4-2 SEC) outshot Georgia 12-9 and held a narrow 5-4 advantage in shots on frame. Graduate midfielder Abby Boyan, who set a new program record Thursday with her 89th career appearance, led the Bulldogs with four shots and two on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown tallied four saves as Georgia’s three-game shutout streak was snapped.
Mississippi State nearly went on the board first in the fourth minute as Brown was drawn out of the net, but the close-range shot hit off the crossbar. Georgia also had an unsuccessful early scoring chance as graduate forward Dani Murguia’s header went high over the net. Georgia continued accumulating chances in the first half, earning three corner kicks and leading the shot margin, 8-6, but the score stayed at zeroes entering the second half.
In the opening minute of the second half, Mississippi State struck first as a long boot from Alivia Buxton found Haley McWhirter in the box, who emerged from a pack of players to deposit the goal, the first allowed by Brown in her Georgia career. The lead was short-lived as Haugen dribbled to the top of the 18 and blasted the equalizer, her third goal of the season.
Following Haugen’s goal, Georgia faced a furious charge from Mississippi State, who outshot the Bulldogs of Athens, 6-1, in the second half. The Starkville Bulldogs earned five corner kicks in the final 15 minutes of play, but the Georgia defense stood tall and secured the valuable point.
