MGOLF: Dawg Finish Fourth in Frederica Cup
The Georgia men’s golf team placed fourth on Thursday in the inaugural Frederica Cup.
Playing Frederica Golf Club’s par-72, 7,309-yard layout, the Bulldogs closed with a 7-under 353 for a total of 44-under 1,036. The Frederica Cup used a format of six players with five counters. Team honors went to Vanderbilt (1,011), followed by Oklahoma (1,014) and Texas Tech (1,034).
Senior Nicolas Cassidy and sophomore Maxwell Ford paced the Bulldogs in the final round as they each posted a 2-under 70. Seniors Connor Creasy and Ben van Wyk and sophomore Buck Brumlow followed with 1-under 71s. Freshman Carter Loflin had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of even-par 72.
Creasy recorded the first top-10 finish of his career as he landed seventh at 14-under 202, also a personal best. William Moll of Vanderbilt was the tournament’s medalist at 197, followed by Commodores teammate Cole Sherwood at 198.
Cassidy registered a 9-under 207 to establish his career-low tournament total and come in 15th. Brumlow and van Wyk placed 17th at 8-under 208, while Loflin came in 29th in his Georgia debut at 3-under 213, and Ford placed 37th at 1-over 217.
“Like every tournament, there were ups and downs, but all in all, I’m satisfied with our efforts,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “We’ll get back to work in Athens to prepare for the next one. It’s a long season, and the fall schedule gives us the opportunity to assess where we are and how best to reach our goals.”
