WTEN: Georgia Concluded Day One at the Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Georgia women’s tennis team concluded its first day of competition at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, posting three doubles victories and six wins in singles on Friday at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Fast Facts:

• No. 28 Aysegul Mert picked up right where she left off last season, opening her 2025 fall tennis account with a three-set victory, over No. 119 Kira Matushkina (ODU), 2-6, 6-3, 6-1  in the women’s singles round of 64.
• No. 100 Sofia Rojas shined in her first match of senior season with a quick win over Lidiia Rasskouskaia (ODU), 6-2, 6-0 in the women’s singles round of 64.
• Three freshmen made their Georgia debut, Emily Deming, Deniz Dilek, and Patricija Paukstyte, each win a singles victory in the women’s round of 64.
• Emma Dong also made her Georgia debut, falling 6-4, 6-4 against Marina Markina (ODU).
• Hayden Mulberry grabbed a singles victory in a matchup with Margaret Navarro (UVA), 6-2, 6-0.
• The newly formed doubles pairing of Dilek and Paukstyte made their season debut, stamping the day with a 6-2 win against Markina and Matushkina (ODU), 6-2 in the women’s doubles round of 64.
• Mert and Mulberry teamed up defeating Victoria Matasova and Rasskouskaia (ODU), 7-5 in a tight match.
• The Georgia rookie pair of Deming and Dong defeated Ulyana Romanova and Mya Byrd (ODU), 6-2 to close out doubles.

Georgia will continue competition in the Carolinas for day two at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
