Video: Kirby Smart’s Alabama Postgame Interview:
On the atmosphere of Sanford Stadium…
“The environment was incredible. It was probably the best environment I’ve ever been a part of here. The crowd did their part, that’s for sure. The crowd was incredible and created a home field advantage that should have been enough for us to win, but we didn’t play real well and they did.”
On his takeaway from Georgia’s inability to get them off the field…
“We tried zone and it didn’t work, we tried man and it didn’t work. Their quarterback executed at a high level. They did a really good job of ID’ing what we were in and put themselves in the right play. Give them a lot of credit for their execution.
On the offense’s ability to run the ball…
“Physical. Our offensive line played really hard and physical. The ability to run the ball, we had some explosive runs. I’m proud of the way we ran the ball but we have to become a better passing team. We have to be able to throw it better.”

Dylan Ross Headed to the Major Leagues

After beginning the year in High-A Brooklyn, former University of Georgia pitcher Dylan Ross is headed to the Major Leagues after the New York Mets selected his contract from Triple-A Syracuse Saturday.
The 6-5, 251-pound Ross was a 13th-round draft pick of the Mets in 2022. A native of Statesboro, Ga., he has overcome a pair of elbow surgeries in his career to reach the Majors. This year, he went 2-0 with seven saves and a 2.17 ERA, plus registered 80 strikeouts over 54 innings, making stops at Brooklyn (High-A), Binghamton (AA) and Syracuse (AAA). Ross posted 11 consecutive scoreless innings when the Minor League season ended last week. For Syracuse, Ross had a 1.69 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 32 innings over 28 appearances. He was three-for-three in save chances.
Apparently, Ross was among a group of Mets pitchers who were working out this week at their Spring Training site in St. Lucie, Fla., in case they were needed for the last series against the Marlins in Miami. With two games left in the regular season, the Mets are aiming to secure the final wild-card spot in the National League. Currently, New York is tied with Cincinnati for the last spot, and the Reds hold the tiebreaker over the Mets. The Reds are on the road against the National League Central Champion Milwaukee Brewers.
Ross began his collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky in 2020, spent one season at Northwest Florida State College and then arrived at the University of Georgia in 2022. He made just two starts before being sidelined with an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. He finished 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in six innings as a Bulldog. Then, he underwent another surgery a year later and pitched just one inning in the minors in 2024.
Ross’s cousin is Terry Childers, who was the starting catcher on Georgia’s 1990 national championship team. Ross and his cousin, Will Childers, were Bulldog teammates in 2022. Will, a pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, ended the 2025 season in Triple-A Nashville.
Ross becomes the 45th former Bulldog to reach the Major Leagues. This season, pitchers Emerson Hancock (Seattle Mariners), Jonathan Cannon (Chicago White Sox) and Cole Wilcox (Tampa Bay Rays), plus infielders Kyle Farmer (Colorado Rockies) and Aaron Schunk (Colorado Rockies) have seen action in the majors.
