David Marshall rarely gets noticed for what he does on the field. He isn’t high on the tackle chart but seems to be one of the unsung heroes of the defense.
Head coach Kirby Smart had plenty to say about the junior and what he brings to the table. The first thing out of Smarts mouth when it came to Marshall was ‘strength,’
“He’s powerful. He can play all the positions,” Smart comments.”He’s smart, and he never complains. He’s the toughest guy in the room. He’s hurt all the time but never hurt. At practice, he doesn’t complain. He’s a worker. He’s really strong. He’s at the point of attack, so they don’t move him, and I think that’s allowed him to become – what you said – ‘an unsung hero.'”
Marshall has two tackles after two games. He proves to be a challenge for an offense to hold, which allows the guys around him to make those plays. Smart puts it simply about what Marshall does for this team.
“He doesn’t play a lot of third down. He gets us to third down.”
