DAWG BONE OFFENSE – GEORGIA
Georgia is awarded the Dawg Bone on offense against the Tennessee Volunteers. Jake Fromm is coming off an outstanding performance against the Fighting Irish. It wasn’t his most impressive game statistically but his poise and decision making was out of this world. There wasn’t a single pass where you questioned what he was thinking. Look for Jake Fromm to build upon that and shred the Volunteer defense. This is a perfect matchup for the Dawgs because Jeremy Pruitt’s team has no depth on the defensive line and the Dawgs offensive line will blow them off the ball from the opening snap. Tennessee will counter by loading the box so look for Georgia receivers George Pickens, Demetris Robertson and Lawrence Cager to have big days.
The Volunteer offense has been a tremendous disappointment this season. When Jim Chaney made the move to Knoxville for over two million dollars per year, the Vol Nation believed Guarantano would take the next step in his development. Instead, he has regressed and now there is an open quarterback competition during the bye week. The offensive line has potential but their youth has proven too much to overcome. With Chaney’s knowledge of the Dawgs defense he will have a plan to attack the Georgia defense but the Vol’s lack the talent to take advantage.
DAWG BONE DEFENSE – GEORGIA
Georgia’s game plan against Tennessee will be very similar to their plan against Notre Dame – eliminate the running game and force Jarrett Guarantano or Brian Maurer to beat you with their arm. Coach Lanning will try to do that with his front seven and not have to roll a safety down close to the line of scrimmage. If the defense can do that the Vols receivers will be in for a rough day with the corners pressing at the line of scrimmage and safeties playing center field waiting for any errant throws. The group on the Dawgs defense that should feast on Saturday are the outside linebackers. They should be able to dominate Tennessee’s tackles and create tremendous amounts of havoc. For that reason, the Dawgs take home the defense Dawg Bone.
Jeremy Pruitt’s defense will come in with one goal, contain the running game. Tennessee has no chance to win this game if the UGA tailbacks run wild so look for eight-man boxes, slants and run blitzes on every down. The Vols have nothing to lose so they will be aggressive but they do not have the talent to defend keep up with the Georgia offense.
DAWG BONE SPECIAL TEAMS – TENNESSEE
Rodrigo Blankenship is the best kicker in the country and completely neutralizes opposing kick returners with his ability to boom it through the endzone. Tyler Simmons struggles at punt returner last week mean Dominick Blaylock may get the start and I believe he is the Dawgs’ best punt returner. However, the Dawgs have a huge question mark at punter because of Jake Camarda’s inconsistency.
Tennessee’s special teams have been their lone bright spot this season. Brent Cimaglia is an outstanding kicker and punter Joe Doyle has been very consistent. The Volunteers return game has also been explosive with Ty Chandler, Marquez Callaway and Tyler Byrd. For those reasons Tennessee gets the Dawg Bone on special teams.
DAWG BONE COACHING – GEORGIA
Georgia takes the coaching Dawg Bone and it isn’t close. Coach Smart made some questionable decisions against Notre Dame but the Bulldog Nation is extremely lucky to have him. The Dawgs are always well prepared and consistently give maximum effort on Saturday. Things could not be any more different in Knoxville. Tennessee has had five players enter the transfer portal this season and Jeremy Pruitt appears to be hanging on by a thread. If the Dawgs start fast Saturday the Volunteers may wave the white flag.
DAWG BONE OVERALL – GEORGIA
After the bye week it is time for Georgia to start hitting their stride. The Dawgs have finally been tested and had two weeks to work on areas that needed improvement. Look for Coach Smart to have the Dawgs locked in and ready to make a statement. The Vols have nothing to lose and will take a big swing but their confidence is at an all-time low. For that reason the Dawgs take the overall Dawg Bone and dominate in Knoxville.
