Bulldawg Illustrated intern Savannah Richardson, a senior in the Grady College of Journalism at UGA, takes a look at Saturday’s Georgia vs. Tennessee game. Here are her ‘Dawg Bones.’

 

OFFENSE DAWG BONE: UGA

 
Georgia gets the offense bone because of the 31 points they put up against Mississippi State. Jake Fromm went 9-12 for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He made quick decisions and the right choices to help take Georgia into the win category! The leading receiver, Terry Godwin had just two catches for 80 yards and a touchdown but leads the team with 214 yards and four touchdowns. And for the rushing side of things, Nick Chubb carried the ball 14 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
 
 
Georgia continues to show the SEC that they aren’t just a run team, that they do a variety of things. The flea flicker that gave Georgia their opening score was textbook. As long as the Bulldogs continue to do what they are doing on the offense, Georgia will hand Tennessee its second loss of the season in Knoxville.
 

DEFENSE DAWG BONE: UGA

 
The Bulldog’s defense allows 11.50 points a game. Opposing teams average just 269.5 yards of total offense against this defense, and just 97.5 rushing yards a game. After containing a powerful Mississippi State offense to three points, Georgia gets the bone for their sheer grit and determination. Kirby Smart has this defense doing things that fans haven’t seen in ages. The coverages are spot on, and if a play happens, the linebackers or secondary are right there in the receivers face making the tackle. Roquan Smith leads the defense with 15 solo tackles and has one sack and three QB hurries. He is the face of the defense and is a special player. The way he watches a play develop and has the speed to go where it’s happening is phenomenal. As long as Georgia continues to dominate on defense, they will continue to get a Dawg bone.
 

SPECIAL TEAMS DAWG BONE: UGA

 
Rodrigo Blankenship continues to shine in everything he’s doing. He has 19 touchbacks on kickoffs and prevents teams from scoring on kickoffs. As for punts, Cameron Nizialek helps Georgia flip the field to give the defense an even better chance at stopping the opposing team. He averages 44.53 yards a punt with a long punt of 57. If Georgia continues to kick it into the end zone and flip the field, the success will stay.
 

COACHING DAWG BONE: UGA

 
Kirby Smart has done wonders with this team. He has the team buying into the program that he instilled last season. The fundamentals are much improved, and the team as a whole just looks like a well-coached team. Smart made a statement during the Mississippi State game, the second statement game of the season. He’s proving to the college football world that Georgia is a force and they are here to play.
 

OVERALL DAWG BONE: UGA

 
After the beatdown of Mississippi State, Georgia carries all the momentum in the SEC East. After the devastating loss last season to Tennessee, Georgia appears more than ready to roll into Knoxville and make a statement. Despite the intimidating atmosphere that Tennessee brings at home with over 100,000 fans, the Bulldogs are there for redemption and bragging rights.
