DDT: It’s Missouri Week, Again, For Georgia

Most programs have their hands full with the Georgia Bulldogs in the Kirby Smart era when the Dawgs have had one week to prepare and put a game plan together for their opponent, much less two. After a Wednesday postponement the first go around, Missouri is once again set to host Georgia in an SEC East contest. Saturday will the dreaded 11:00am Central Time start in Columbia, and one thing seems to be for certain in those contest at Mizzou, expect the unexpected.

The Tigers are 5 – 1 in their last six games after starting the year 0 – 2. First year Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz has Missouri drinking the cool-aid for sure. If there is one good thing about last week’s postponement against Vandy, it’s that hopefully Georgia got the opportunity to rest some players with ailment. Players like Monty Rice and Jermaine Johnson have been banged up all year. Fresh legs, especially on defense will be needed. Missouri always seems to air it out and put up points in home games. This year in 5 games on Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium Missouri is averaging exactly 35 points per game.

However, Missouri has not faced off against a Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning, Todd Monken lead squad that’s already had a more than a week to prepare their squad for the meat and potatoes of a game plan. Look for Georgia to come out with plenty of motivation as well, despite being eliminated from SEC East Championship content for the first time since 2016. Georgia has several players committed to the Senior Bowl later this year in Mobile, Alabama, and players like Tyson Campbell, Eric Stokes, Zamir White and James Cook could have interesting decisions to make at season’s end. The Georgia players seemed genuinely heartbroken not to get to play Senior Day this past Saturday. Smart and company have plenty of positives from Missouri this year to point to, to have Georgia sharp mentally heading into this one.

Also, the entire offense just seems energized with JT Daniels at quarterback. Receivers run routes a little harder and a little more crisp when they’re expecting an accurate ball. Offensive linemen block a little harder when their is a threat of plays down the field and they aren’t smashing up against a loaded box every play. Of course the running backs are the beneficiary of the less crowed boxes as well. In the last 3 contests Missouri has by scores of both 17 – 10 and 50 – 48. Daniels and company would figure to be able to produce a total somewhere in the middle of those 2. It will be fun to watch this offense take the field, knock on wood, at full strength.
