Georgia is coming off of the single best offensive passing performance in the Kirby Smart era. JT Daniels lit up Mississippi State for 401 yards and brought explosiveness, excitement, and hope to the future of the Georgia offense under Todd Monken. However, the defense struggled for the 3rd time in 4 games, especially in coverage on wideouts on 3rd Down. No doubt Smart, Lanning, and company will be working hard to correct these issues for the remainder of 2020, but it appears secondary help in 2021 could be on the way.
Nyland Green seems to have made TD up his mind. Green, as we’ve mentioned recently here on the Dawg Daily Thread, is one of, if not the, most coveted remaining targets in the entire 2021 class. The athletic, lengthy cornerback is an in-state standout from Newton High School in Covington, Georgia, that the Dawgs are fighting for along with Tennessee, Auburn, and Clemson. The 4-Star, in my opinion, is underrated even at that level. Green is one of the most fluid and dynamic players that I’ve seen. He’s able to play tight man coverage, has tremendous dexterity and ball skills, and his ability to elevate is truly an asset.
Tennessee has been pushing hard to convince Green to leave the Peach State and to attend Rocky Top. With the pandemic putting a halt to traditional recruiting official visits by the prospects to games and the campuses, and also in-home visits by coaches to the players and their families, the product on the field is really the best evidence of where a program is going for prospects in this class. While Georgia has stumbled against Alabama and Florida, if you’re Nyland Green, it would seem to be apparent that the Dawgs and Vols are heading in two opposite directions. With a QB like JT Daniels now on the scene, and Brock Vandagriff arriving in January, combined with a real chance to play early in the Georgia secondary that will be replacing a lot of talent next year, it certainly seems like the momentum in this recruitment is with UGA.
Regardless the outcome, it appears it won’t take long to find out based on Nyland Green’s tweet on Sunday evening.
