GEORGIA BULLDOGS (#9, 7-2) VS. CINCINNATI BEARCATS (#8, 9-0)
12:00 NOON EST, ESPN
GEORGIA -7.5, LOCATION: MERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM (ATLANTA, GA)
Happy New Year everyone! The Peach Bowl is finally here and Georgia gets to play a football game for the first time since December 12th. It has been an eventful lead up to this contest between the 9th ranked Georgia Bulldogs and the 8th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, and it really didn’t have much to do with the matchup of the 2 teams. No, the battle has more so been Georgia and Kirby Smart versus the media and versus national narratives.
Kirby Smart has been bluntly honest lately. From calling out reports that were incorrect on who is playing and who is not for the Dawgs in the bowl game, to loosely and freely commenting on the Justin Fields/Jake Fromm scenario in revisionist fashion and advocating for a 12 team playoff, it seems that Kirby Smart is clear minded. If his team is as well, Georgia has the offensive firepower behind JT Daniels, George Pickens, Zamir White, and company to test the 5th ranked overall defense of Cincinnati and also to help out their own defense that will be missing players due to opt outs for the NFL and to injury.
People question the motivation of the Georgia Bulldogs with this game not being part of the playoff. Kirby Smart himself and also players like Malik Herring, Tyson Campbell, and Jordan Davis have all dispelled that notion in their pregame press availabilities. If you don’t want to take their word for it, check out the latest hype video released by Georgia Football and get ready to watch some Dawgs football in the new year, 2021!
