Georgia’s win over Tennessee on Saturday was very meaningful in the scheme of the SEC and specifically the SEC East. Georgia handed Tennessee their first loss and now holds the head to head tie breaker over the Vols should that come into play. Also, Florida lost to Texas A&M, leaving Georgia as the only undefeated team in the SEC East. However, the impact of the victory for the Dawgs reached far beyond the 2020 season as recruits in the 2021 class were honed in on the result of this game.
We are now less than 48 hours away from knowing where 5-Star offensive tackle Amarius Mims is going to commit. It’s been known for a long time that Georgia and Tennessee are the front runners for the near 6’8″ 330 pound behemoth out of Cochran, Georgia, and one can only imagine that this game helped to tip the scales. I believe that tomorrow Mims will commit to the ‘G’ and Brock Vandagriff will have made his first major contribution to the University of Georgia by helping secure the nation’s top lineman.
On Sunday night, Amarius Mims reached out to a fellow 5-Star in Paulding County linebacker Smael Mondon.
Mondon is considered by many to be one of, if not the, most athletic prospects in the country in the 2021 class. At 6’3″ 220 pounds, Mondon can really run and has shown how explosive he is on offense during his high school career at Paulding County. Also, Mondon runs well from sideline to sideline from in the middle of field and he’s adept at rushing the passer as well. Ultimately Georgia is fighting with Tennessee and Auburn for Mondon. I would say that of the prospects that have and, or will be talked about in this article, Mondon is the one I’m least confident that ends up at UGA.
Terrion Ingram-Dawkins jumped into the comments of the aforementioned post on social media by Amarius Mims. TID, as he’s know, seems to be keenly focused on the decision that Mims will be making soon. Also, after publicly announcing he’d be tuned in to the game on Saturday, TID had to come away impressed with what the Georgia defensive front was able to accomplish against a respected offensive front for UT. TID has told 247 Sports that he could commit at any time. The momentum seems to be strong here with Georgia and you know Coach Tray Scott didn’t wait long to reach out to the 6’5″ 300 plus pounder after the 44 to 21 throttling of the Vols.
Lastly, Nyland Green got to see that suffocating display by the Georgia defense. A 4-Star cornerback from Covington, Georgia, Green is one that Kirby Smart and company desperately want to keep in state. Not long ago Clemson and Auburn were considered the favorites for the incredibly talented Green, but throughout the summer and into the fall, Tennessee and Georgia have become prominent and are considered by many to be the leaders for the Newton County standout. 247 Sports reported that Kirby Smart had Nyland on a Zoom call during the postgame celebration in the UGA locker-room after Saturday’s big win. Gotta love recruiting in the college football world today.
