There are rare moments when watching a sporting contest or a competition of some kind that you see something or someone that stands out in such a way that you are caught just appreciating the opportunity to witness such a marvel in person. Malaki Starks is that type of talent. The Jefferson, Georgia, native is absolutely as close to a “must have” prospect as there can be as it pertains to the Dawgs recruiting class of 2022. Not only is the fact that Starks lives less than 30 minutes from UGA’s campus a big motivating factor for the Dawgs, but also is the fact that if Georgia signs the in-state phenom, they keep him away from Alabama and Clemson.
Alabama and Clemson have been neck and neck as the premier program in college football over the last 10 years. In the last 5, Georgia has literally been seconds away from legitimately having had a chance for 2 national championships in that period of time. Preventing a player that many project to be an immediate impact player form landing with the Crimson Tide and the Tigers would be huge for recruiting momentum and also just from roster development as a whole. All of this will be figured out it seems on March 25th at 5:30pm. That is when Malaki Starks has set his commitment announcement for.
Starks is talented enough and skilled enough to impact a team in a variety of ways. The Dawgs would likely utilize Starks at Star, Safety, in the return game, and on coverage units. Of course Georgia is considered thin in the secondary in 2021. Adding to the depth of the back end of the defense is always good, but with a player as capable of excelling in so many areas as Starks in, it would be even more fantastic!
Starks has kept his recruitment close to the vest for the most part. The team captain for the 2020 State Runner-Up Jefferson Dragons is humble and doesn’t create a lot of fuss or try to draw more attention to himself than was is already given than to his tremendous amount of God-given talent. However, one thing that is clear is how important family is to Malaki Starks. The Starks family consists of a lot of die hard UGA fans and if the sentiment of the Georgia Football program feeling like an extension of family holds true with Starks as it has with so many recruits I’ve spoken to, then one has to like Georgia’s chances. The official B.I.P. (Bulldawg Illustrated Prediction) for Starks is that he commits to the Georgia Bulldogs.
We will all find out on March 25th!
