Looking at the list, you’ll notice that defense is the focus for the rounding out of the 2021 class for the Georgia Bulldogs. The reason for that is because the Georgia staff took care of business thoroughly and early on the offensive side. UGA has their quarterback of the future in Prince Avenue’s Brock Vandagriff. After taking 6 receivers in the 2020 class, the Dawgs only need a couple of additions to the wide receiver room this time around and got two good one in Jackson Meeks and Adonai Mitchell.
Matt Luke firmly put his stamp on the Georgia program by securing an unbelievable OL class, including Amarius Mims. Finally, Todd Hartley went out west and got his annual freaky athletic tight end once again in 4-Star and Napa native Brock Bowers. The pièce de résistance, if you will, is the one offensive player on the list, running back Donovan Edwards. Dell McGee is a relentless recruiter and one has to think the imploding of the Michigan program under Harbaugh has to buoy the Dawgs changes with Edwards, as it’s long seemed to be a battle between Michigan and Georgia for the 4-Star RB.
Georgia needs to land around 4 of the defenders on the list above. UGA is likely losing a tremendous amount of talent off the defense from this year. Monty Rice, Richard LeCounte, Julian Rochester, Devonte Wyatt, DJ Daniels, Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, and Jermaine Johnson at minimum are going to move on to pro ball. The secondary takes the biggest hit and Georgia needs at least one more cornerback and one more safety in the 2021 class. Edge defenders need to be added as well.
I think Elijah Sabbatini is the closest to any recruit remaining that to committing to the ‘G’. The safety from Biloxi, Mississippi, was once committed to Ole Miss, but after Georgia offered, Sabbatini decommitted from the Rebels and Coach Warren and the Bulldogs have been in constant communication with him sense. At cornerback, Nyland Green is highly coveted by the Dawgs. The Newton High School two-way standout is as athletic as any player in the country in the 2021 class. His ability to run, to elevate, his dexterity, and his physicality make Green the type of prospect that could contribute in Athens immediately should the Dawgs land him over Tennessee.
Xavian Sorey and Terrion Arnold are being pursued intensely by Georgia. 2021 UGA commits David Daniel and Lovasea Carroll are doing their part in trying to bring aboard the duo from the Sunshine State. However, Florida is and has been the biggest threat to Georgia in the recruitment of these two 4-Stars that have claimed to be a “package deal”. After Florida handling Georgia in Jacksonville this year, it would appear the Gators have the momentum.
Three names to keep an eye on are Byron Young, Shemar Turner, and Elijah Jeudy. Jeudy was once committed to Georgia, but now he’s deciding between Texas A&M and UGA. Young is an underrated edge player from Georgia Military College and Shemar Turner is a versatile, big athlete that could play in multiple spots along the UGA front, including on the edge. The Dawgs need to get 2 of the 3 with the other 2 of their likely 4 remaining spots going to defensive backs as aforementioned.
It’s going to be a crazy next month until signing day! Buckle up, but be confident that the Dawgs will finish strong in the class of 2021.
