Kirby Smart bluntly alluded to the fact that win, lose, or draw, the recruiting pitch at Georgia does not change. Smart and company are selling an opportunity to develop as an overall player, to get a great education, and to compete for championships. Smart has certainly done all of that in his brief 5 year tenure as the head Dawg. However, without compromising his principles of hard work, competition, and earning reps, Kirby Smart needs a 5-Star quarterback to pan out in order to keep the pipeline of talent flowing into Athens.

Brock Vandagriff is the next in line in that category. The hometown legend from just outside of the Classic City has shown tremendous ability to be both extremely accurate through the air and dangerous with his legs. Vandagriff is a cerebral assassin as well. The son of a coach, and a tireless work, with great understanding of defenses and the game in general, Vandagriff is set up for success. Vandagriff also displays maturity and intelligence as he is the first ever student from Prince Avenue to be able to graduate after the first semester of their season year and early enroll. Vandagriff will be on campus and with the team in January.

Don’t get me wrong, Kirby Smart knows more about football than everybody reading this. Smart and Todd Monken want what is best for Georgia football and I truly believe that’s why Stetson Bennett IV has been playing over JT Daniels, Dwan Mathis, and Carson Beck. The Georgia coaching staff thought that for each one of those game that Bennett IV was the best quarterback that gave them the best shot to win the game. With a limited amount of games left, against opponents that by talent alone Georgia should beat, is there any chance that any of the 4 scholarship QBs on the roster solidify themselves as the starter going into 2021? That’s yet to be determined, but rest assured, Brock Vandagriff is coming in to compete for the role of QB1.

Perception becomes reality. The perception on the outside is that Georgia has mismanaged the quarterback room over the last few years and that the Dawgs don’t seem capable of finding “the guy” to be a Heisman finalist, stat sheet filling, undisputed star that can win the games need to win the National Championship, not just play well and manage games. Brock Vandagriff needs to be that guy for Georgia. The good news is for UGA fans, by watching his highlights of his senior year so far, it certainly seems like Vandagriff can be.
