Georgia isn’t playing. The reasons are unclear, although the tone that has come from Georgia officials, all the way up to soon retiring AD Greg McGarity, seems to indicate that Vanderbilt left many a stone unturned and there is more to the “postponement” than COVID concerns. Nonetheless, there is football to be played around the country on Saturday, plenty of which directly impacts the Dawgs and the CFP rankings. We walk you through games to watch and things to watch for in those games.
Ohio State travels to Mel Tucker’s Spartans of Michigan State. Tucker has brought energy to this program and they knocked off a top 10 Northwestern team last week. It will be interesting just who takes the field for the Buckeyes. OSU had a litany of positive tests and contract tracing just a week ago. We know they’ll be without Ryan Day on the sidelines. Could be interesting in East Lancing at 12:00 on ABC.
The Auburn Tigers might just be playing to save the job of Guz Malzahn against Texas A&M. This contest is also a 12:00ET kickoff and can be viewed on ESPN. Jimbo Fisher has the Aggies ranked 5th in the country and given the prospects of Ohio State and Michigan next week, regardless of the Buckeye’s result in East Lancing today, A&M could be on the verge of a playoff birth. Will A&M be able to impose their will on Auburn’s defensive front and force Bo Nix and company to play from behind? It’ll be a fun one to watch. Malzahn seems to find one game every year that Auburn shouldn’t win and keeps War Eagle Farmers Only Tiger Cats in SEC West purgatory.
The other 2 SEC games of note, Florida at Tennessee and Alabama at LSU should be skull draggings of the great magnitude. You know Saban and the Tide will show no quarter to Ed Orgeron and LSU and well, if Florida doesn’t hang 50 on Pruitt and company I’ll be shocked. Georgia is likely to move up after this week but it’ll be thanks to Auburn or Michigan State most likely. Georgia would probably like to see Iowa State stumble against West Virginia, just to completely wreck and Big 12 momentum there might be at all.
Enjoy the day of football with no pressure of having to scrutinize every Georgia offensive snap and having to listen to endless talk about a kicker. That’s awful regardless of gender.
