Coach Scott Stricklin and his team learned a little more about themselves today in a 10-3 victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, tying the series heading into today’s last game of the series. While the Dawgs did wind up on top in game two, this victory revealed that Georgia has yet to find confidence in its pitching. 

In his post-game interview, Stricklin explained that the team as a whole “played much better” than Friday, but mentioned that Jaden Woods and Liam Sullivan need some work. He didn’t seem disappointed, but just realistic and said that the two of them should and would put together a good week of practice to prepare for oncoming opponents. 

The team doesn’t doubt them either. It’s just a matter of getting into that groove it seems. Redshirt freshman Charlie Condon said that he has “faith” in those guys and the rest of the bullpen.

Regardless, it was better than the day before, so that’s the good part. The Georgia Bulldogs wound up putting up 10 runs on the JSU Gamecocks this go around, but that still doesn’t mean too much. According to Condon the Dawgs are “obviously going to put up a lot of runs from the offensive side.” With it only being two games into the season, that’s a little hard to confirm, but for now we’ll take it with a grain of salt. 

Overall though, the game went pretty well. I started out with the Dawgs being down after JSU hit a 3-run homer. Georgia answered with a Parks Harber 3-run homer, found some plays on defense, and even managed to fit in a double play to build some momentum. All of this sets up for a promising closer this afternoon.
