Kirby Smart completed his third national signing day this past February and capitalized on what was a monumental class for Georgia. He signed twenty-six overall players, consisting of eight five stars and the second highest ranked class in the history of recruiting.
While all of the signees won’t be on campus until the fall, he is already seeing the impact the early enrollees in this class are making on the field.
“They’ve been embraced by the rest of our team, but they’re by themselves,” head coach Kirby Smart said. Their out there going against big league, fast people and none of them really stick out as being out of place.”
Here is a list of the current early enrollees at Georgia this spring:
Brenton Cox- DE/ 5 Star
Justin Fields- QB/ 5 Star
Cade Mays- OL/ 5 Star
Zamir White- RB/ 5 Star
Trey Hill- OL/ 4 Star
Kearis Jackson- WR/ 4 Star
Warren Ericson- OL/ 4 Star
Divaad Wilson- DB/ 4 Star
Devontee Wyatt- DT/ 4 Star Juco Transfer
Besides Divaad Wilson who is out with a torn ACL this spring and Zamir White who is limited at practice with a knee injury, Smart mentioned that all the others are competing like they have already been here before.
“The three offensive lineman they go with the 2s, Brenton Cox he gets to go with the 1s every now and then in pass rush and he’s learning what to do,” Smart said. There’s a lot of guys that have gotten better and helped us and I think it was really critical to get those guys in considering what we lost.”
It is usually hard for freshmen to get playing time, but the talent from this class will be hard to keep off the field even in year one. Reloading, not rebuilding, is what Smart has been used to as a coach throughout his career and has now made that a reality at Georgia with his exceptional recruiting prowess.
This Saturday at G-day will be the first time fans can witness this recruiting class on the field.
