Several Lady Bulldogs on the UGA women’s tennis team aiming for a bid to the Main Draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships fell short Wednesday in the qualifying round, but Elena Christofi and Morgan Coppoc are in.

 
A day after besting the top-seeded doubles team, junior Mariana Gould and freshman Katarina Jokic lost to the 60th-ranked Duke duo of Samantha Harris and Kelly Chen, 8-3. The match marked the first loss for Gould and Jokic as they hold a team-best 6-1 doubles record.
 
 
Later in the afternoon, sophomore Marta Gonzalez and Jokic competed in the singles portion of the qualifying stage in need of two wins to gain entry to the main draw.
 
 
Jokic, of Zrenjanin, Serbia, battled Florida’s Brooke Austin, ranked 93rd in ITA singles rankings, to the brink of defeat, but the Gator senior fought to a third set and prevailed 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3. The Bulldog freshman is tied for the team-high in singles wins with a 10-2 mark.
 
 
Gonzalez, of Madrid Spain, faced No. 2 seed and 22nd-ranked Jessie Aney of UNC. After losing the first set, Gonzalez took the second to force a third set, but the junior Tar Heel outlasted for a final score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Gonzalez now sits at 10-2 on the season with Jokic.
 
 
The main draw starts Thursday with two Bulldogs set to compete. Based on last year’s results and ITA preseason rankings, Georgia sophomore Elena Christofi, currently ranked No. 10, will be playing in the singles and doubles bracket. In the doubles draw, freshman Morgan Coppoc joins Christofi as the pair hold a 4-2 record and are ranked 34th nationally.
