The Georgia equestrian and men’s cross country teams have been named recipients of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Award for earning the highest team grade point averages (GPA) during the 2016-17 academic year.
For the men’s distance-running squad, this marks the fifth time in the past seven years it has won the prestigious honor, while the equestrian team has been honored three times in the past four years.
The equestrian team compiled a 3.41 GPA over the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. All female sports teams compiled a GPA of 3.00 or better for the 2016-17 academic school year with track & field (3.39), tennis (3.38), cross country (3.35), and soccer (3.32) rounding out the top five.
The men’s cross country team had a combined 3.32 GPA during the same two-semester period. Swimming (3.27), tennis (3.14), track & field (3.09), and baseball (3.03) rounded out the top five for the male teams.
A total of 34 Georgia student-athletes achieved a GPA of 4.0 during the Fall 2016 semester, while 24 student-athletes earned a 4.0 during the Spring 2017 semester. Also during the fall semester, 130 student-athletes compiled a GPA between 3.5-3.99, while 148 achieved the same mark during the spring semester.
