In the equestrian sports, the rider is just one-half of the equation when it comes to the competition. The other is the majestic Equus ferus caballus. Five horses of the UGA equestrian program have claimed NCEA Top Horse Awards. The top 10 horses were selected from each of the four disciplines in the NCEA; Reining, Horsemanship, Equitation on the Flat, and Equitation Over Fences.

 
 
Princeton, a 16.1 hand Bay horse, donated by the Donohue Family, was named a Top Horse in Equitation Over Fences. CJ, a Chestnut horse donated by Jennifer Waxman, and Grady, a Chestnut donated by Mona Maerz, both made the list in Equitation on the Flat.
 
 
On the Western side, Abner, a Bay horse donated by Cecilia Hylton with a registered name of “I Be Packin’ Iron”, was named a Top-10 horse in Horsemanship, while Banjo, a 15.1 hand Black horse also known as “Banjo’s Remedy” and donated by Lee Windham, made the list in Reining.
 
 
CJ, Grady, and Abner will be traveling to compete at the NCEA National Championship. The Bulldogs will compete for the program’s seventh national title at the NCEA National Championship at the Extraco Event Center in Waco, Texas April 13-15. As the No. 2 seed, Georgia received a first round bye and will take on the winner of No. 7 Fresno State versus No. 10 New Mexico State on Friday, April 14. The semifinal and championship rounds will take place on Saturday, April 15.
