Georgia also competed in Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship against TCU on Friday afternoon, following the conclusion of the meet against FSU. The Bulldogs defeated TCU 5-2 in two events and will complete with Reining and Equitation Over Fences Saturday morning.
“I’m proud of this team today,” said head coach Meghan Boenig. “They were focused and determined and executed what we’ve been practicing leading up to this weekend. I’ve got to commend Sara Parr on an excellent ride as she continues her MOP streak. We also had a good start to the competition against TCU. We will need to maintain the same focus we saw today going into tomorrow.”
Georgia vs. Fresno State
Highlighting the meet was an MOP-earing performance by senior Sara Parr. Parr was awarded the honors after defeating her opponent with an event-high score of 75.5.
Georgia jumped out to a 4-1 lead in Equitation Over Fences. Leylan Gleeson took the first point of the day with an 84-77 decision. Liza Finsness rode to an 82-81 decision, followed by another winning ride by Megan Southam who scored a 75. Kylee Arbuckle picked up the fourth-straight point for Georgia before Fresno State’s Kylina Chaleck earned their lone point of the event.
Georgia repeated the 4-1 score in Horsemanship. Heather Schmidt set the pace for Georgia with a 66-51.5 victory. Rachel Kolb put another point on the board, defeating Sydney Elliot 75-70. Fresno State’s Taylor Brown then earned the only point of the event. With two points left up for grabs, Stawicki put up a 72.5 over Rachel Wiliam’s score of 70.5. Parr took the final point, edging her opponent with an MOP-earning 75.5-75 victory. At the half, Georgia led Fresno State 8-2.
Meg O’Mara led of Equitation on the Flat with an impressive 94-74 victory. Finsness followed defeating Kara Spicer 85-77. Southam scored an 80 to win her point. Arbuckle took the fourth-straight point for Georgia with a 91-82 point victory. Fresno State was able to earn the final point of the event.
Fresno State concluded the day with a 3-2 decision over Georgia in Reining. Charley Thiel put the first point on the board with a 69.5-68.5 win. Next, Lauren Garmon outscored Kirsten McKillop 68.5-66.5. Fresno State picked up the next three points to seal the event.
Georgia vs. TCU
In Equitation on the Flat, the Bulldogs used a 3-1 decision to defeat the Horned Frogs. While Fresno State took the first point, Finsness, Aruckle and Gleeson had winning rides.
The Georgia Horsemanship squad took a 2-1 victory led by Parr who defeated her opponent 75-68.5. Kolb took the next point with a 74-71 win before Anderson rode to a 75.5-point tie with Colby Plott. TCU was able to earn the final point of the event.
