No. 2 Georgia equestrian defeated No. 8 South Carolina 13-7 Saturday afternoon at the One Wood Farm. With the win, Georgia improves to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Southeastern Conference competition.
 
 
Highlighting the meet was Meg O’Mara (Equitation Over Fences) and Bailey Anderson (Horsemanship) who won MOP honors for Georgia. Additionally, O’Mara rode to a career-high 93 in Equitation Over Fences.
 
 
“It’s always nice to come home with a win, especially against a good team and SEC rival like South Carolina,” Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. “This is a great place to be at this point in the season as we get ready for our next SEC competitor, Auburn.”
 
 
Competition started with Reining with Georgia jumping to an early 3-2 lead. South Carolina took the first point with Makayla Clegg outscoring Kyndall Harper 67.5-66. Georgia took the next two points with Charley Thiel grabbing a point from Bridgett White before Lauren Garmon outscored Madison Thiel 69-65.5. The next point went to South Carolina’s Bailey Walters over Graysen Stroud 72-70.5. Georgia took the final point of the event with Claudia Spreng outscoring Sarah Bouchard 70-68.5.
 
 
Equitation Over Fences was up next with Georgia extended its lead. Georgia earned the first two points with Addy Cord and Liza Finsness outscoring their opponents 75-71 and 87-81, respectively. South Carolina took the next two points. Chloe Schmidt edged Leylan Gleeson 77-76 before Samantha Kraus defeated Alex Maracic 83-80. Georgia won another point with O’Mara riding to a career-high and MOP winning score of 93 over Sydney Smith’s 70.
 
 
After two events Georgia led South Carolina 6-4.
 
 
Georgia earned four points over in Horsemanship. Madison Anger took the first point for Georgia, outscoring Abigail Pait 72.5-71.5. South Carolina won their lone point of the event before Georgia earned the last three. Anderson rode to an MOP earning 76.5 over Ashley Reichert’s 75 , then Rachel Kolb and Heather Schmidt each defeated their South Carolina opponents by one point. With one event to go, Georgia led South Carolina 10-5.
 
 
Competition concluded in Equitation on the Flat. Georgia riders, Madison Newman and O’Mara earned two points for Georgia before South Carolina riders claimed the next two. Gleeson closed out competition with another point for Georgia.
 
 
Georgia returns to action next Saturday when they host Auburn at the UGA Equestrian Complex. Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
