In Georgia’s 16-15 victory at Tennessee to open the 1980 season, freshman sensation HERSCHEL WALKER scored both touchdowns in the Bulldogs unforgettable come-from-behind victory.
In Georgia’s 44-0 victory over Tennessee to open the 1981 season, freshman phenomenal KEVIN BUTLER nailed three field goals and five PATs to accumulate 14 points in his first game.
Georgia upset Tennessee 35-31 in Knoxville in 1973, with the game-winning touchdown being scored by ANDY JOHNSON, one of the best quarterbacks in Bulldog history.
In the 2001 NCAA Tennis Championship Final in Athens, the Bulldogs defeated Tennessee to capture the national title, the FOURTH OF SIX won by the regal Georgia program.
En route to the 2001 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP in baseball – Georgia’s first league crown on the diamond since 1954 – the Bulldogs swept Tennessee in Knoxville.
One of the most memorable plays in Georgia football history was Sean Jones’ 92-YARD FUMBLE RETURN for a touchdown to end the first half in the Bulldogs 41-14 2003 win in Knoxville.
TENNESSEE
Prior to Alabama’s run of the last three Southeastern Conference titles, Tennessee in 1997 and 1998 was the last team to win back-to-back league championships.
In his first seven seasons at the Tennessee helm, legendary Volunteers coach GENERAL ROBERT NEYLAND amassed an amazing record of 61-2-4.
Beginning with a 17-14 win over Georgia in Knoxville in 1989, the Volunteers WON NINE STRAIGHT on the gridiron over Georgia, until a 21-10 Bulldogs victory in 2000.
