Photo Galleries: Five Dawgs Selected in First Round of Historic NFL Draft

The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft ended with five Bulldogs hearing their names called. In draft order they are:

Travon Walker
Even in April, the Dawgs are still on top. Travon Walker was taken No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Walker’s potential status as the No. 1 overall pick was surrounded by some controversy. It was his elite athleticism that propelled him up draft boards, but his lack of production on the field prevented him from unanimously surpassing Aidan Hutchinson for the best prospective player in this draft class.

Prior to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Aidan Hutchinson was thought to be the most likely player selected first overall, but after Walker’s top-tier athletic testing, the script was flipped. Proving his raw skills were superior to almost all players at his position and size, scouts began to draw comparisons to him and a raw Myles Garrett.

Leaving Athens and heading to Jacksonville, Walker should look forward to helping his new team win in a city and stadium he’s already VERY familiar with.

Jordan Davis
National Champion, Redcoat Band Conductor, NFL Combine standout, and now first-round draft pick, Jordan Davis continues to add to his already illustrious resume.

He had been consistently mocked to the Ravens at 14th overall but wound up going one pick earlier to the Philadelphia Eagles.

There, Davis joins a team noted for drafting in the trenches bringing his mean game to the City of Brotherly Love.

Quay Walker
Quay Walker has been quietly climbing draft boards after his combine and has now surpassed his teammate Nakobe Dean on the draft board, who was at one point believed to be the best linebacker in the draft.

Getting picked by Green Bay at 22nd was surprising given the Devonte Adams trade and their new need for a wide receiver, but Walker’s pick isn’t unwarranted. He brings length, speed, and production to the Packers defense.

Devonte Wyatt
One of the keystones of Georgia’s generational 2021 defense gets to play with his teammate Quay Walker in Green Bay. Just six picks after getting the linebacker, the Packers follow up and add to the defensive line picking Wyatt 28th overall.

As Georgia celebrates one of its own moving on to the next level, Green Bay fans will continue to ponder just who will be catching passes for their team in the fall.

Lewis Cine
At 32nd overall the Vikings drafted a heat-seeking-missile of a player in Lewis Cine. He plays angry and he hits like it too. Cine’s tackling ability in the run game was literally unlike no other in college football. He has legitimate potential to produce as a rookie.

To cap off the first day of the draft the Dawgs break an NFL record having five defensive Georgia players drafted in the first round. With Nakobe Dean and George Pickens still on the board the Georgia Bulldogs should be busy early as the second round of the NFL Draft will proceed later today.
