Five Keys for a Dawgs’ Victory

After back-to-back losses to Ole Miss and Tennessee, Georgia hits the road for their third Southeastern Conference game in a row, and if they want to get back to winning, here are Jeff Dantzler’s five keys to a Dawgs’ victory.

1. START BETTER ON THE ROAD
This is Georgia’s third Southeastern Conference road game, and if the Bulldogs are going to pull out a win at Williams- Brice Stadium for the first time since 2008, a good start would be a big plus. In the other Columbia, it was an early hole as Missouri drove right down the field for a touchdown and then stretched the lead to 10-0. Georgia would come back and win a 28-27 thriller. The following week in Oxford, well it was an Ole Miss Avalanche from which the Bulldogs couldn’t recover.

2. SCORE A N.O.T.
One of the big plays in Oxford was an Ole Miss interception return for a touchdown that made it 10-0. Those are the types of plays that make the difference. Georgia’s defense and special teams can give that lift by making the big play and taking some of the stream out of the raucous Williams-Brice faithful.

3. CATCH THAT PIGSKIN
Dropped passes have severely plagued Georgia. Wide receiver was a major question mark for Georgia entering the season and is a top priority on the recruiting trail. With some of the issues the Bulldogs are facing on offense, there just isn’t much margin for error. Executing the basics, like catching passes, is a must.

4. RATTLE MCILWAIN
There will be a lot of chatter about two first year head coaches squaring off, and the outcome will have a lot to do with which freshman quarterback makes the fewest mistakes and most big plays. Brandon Mcllwain is a talented dual-threat QB, a younger version of the last signal callers the Georgia defense has tangled with. The Dogs stop unit needs to force mistakes, create negative yardage plays and get Mcllwain out of his comfort zone.

5. SONY AND THE BACKS
Tailback U has been hamstrung by some of the struggles of an offensive line trying to gel and consistently get a push. But there is tremendous talent, even with the outstanding Nick Chubb battling an injury. Sony Michel is a special player, Brendan Douglas has power and the freshmen Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield are talented young play-makers. To pull this out, in some form or fashion, the Bulldog tailbacks.
