During Tuesday’s practice I confined myself to the offensive side of the ball. Also watching the offense was my high school coach, Ray Lamb. It was great to see Coach Lamb out and about after his recent health issues.
The first thing that stuck out with the offense was Walter Grant taking snaps with the running back. Coach Smart explained during his post-practice presser that the mover for Grant was an “experiment”. Smart described Grant as an intelligent player who is able to absorb the offensive while maintaining his familiarity with the defense.
A 6-4/245 running back would be an interesting addition to the Dawgs’ offensive punch in 2019
Smart mentioned in his presser that Demetris Robertson is much more comfortable with the offense and his blocking assignments, and it shows. Robertson appears ready to put is world class athleticism into the Dawgs arsenal.
James Cook has looked very quick and sharp running the drills that we are allowed to see, but Kirby revealed that Cook is not back to 100 percent after his ankle surgery. Watch out for this kid when he is completely healed. Smart said that he is currently about 90 percent.
