Robert Cox was back at practice after been held out and subjected to disciplinary measures following his arrest for marijuana possession along with Brenton Cox. I did not see Cox, h
Jermaine Johnson, who had been nursing an ankle injury, also returned to workouts. David Marshall was also back with the defensive line.
There have been many reports about the offensive line rotation and its changes as we have progressed through spring practice. One thing to keep in mind is that a player running at a specific spot with the second unit does not necessarily mean that he would replace the guy ahead of him if an injury occurred or the starter needed a blow. I have noted this spring that D’Marcus Hayes has been a frequent flyer at #2 left tackle, however, that does not mean Hayes would be first off the bench to replace Andrew Thomas if he were injured. It is more likely that Cade Mays would move over from right tackle – cross training is a hallmark of Sam Pittman’s unit.
The major highlight of our period was the pursuit drill. The purpose of the drill is to train everyone on the defens to get to the football on every play. It is a high-energy drill with the coaches moving between reps at a frantic pace and forcing each unit to run to the ball across the entire practice field. Pursuit closes cut-back lanes for ball carriers and stops explosive plays.
