Georgia Lady Bulldog freshman Caliya Robinson has earned back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors, marking the third time this season she has garnered the weekly award, the SEC office announced on Tuesday.
The Marietta, Georgia, native has been impressive as the team enters the stretch run of conference play. Robinson is averaging 11.8 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per contest during the Lady Bulldogs’ current five-game win streak — their longest string of SEC victories since the 2010-11 season.
“To earn Freshman of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks and three times this season in this league is a remarkable accomplishment,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “Caliya continues to prove week in and week out that she is one of the rising stars in the Southeastern Conference. I am proud of her for the hard work that she has put in, not only to make herself a better player, but also help make us a better team.”
Robinson earned the weekly award thanks to a strong performance on the road at LSU on Sunday. The 6-foot-3 forward scored a career-high 19 points and tallied a career-best 11 rebounds as she led Georgia in scoring and recorded her third double-double of the season.
She was pivotal in Georgia’s 12-4 fourth quarter run against the Tigers, scoring six of the team’s 12 points during that span to help the Lady Bulldogs build a 16-point lead. Robinson scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half and has now reached double figures in scoring in three of the last four games.
Robinson and the Lady Bulldogs head to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on the third-ranked Gamecocks on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
