As they say, an ugly win is still a win. UGA has won two ugly ones in the last two weeks, and I wonder where the team that destroyed Oregon is hiding? Let’s face it, the Dawgs have underwhelmed recently, and there are challenging games against talented teams on the horizon.

As I write this in a hotel room near the Mizzou campus, it is tempting to rail about the sloppy play on both sides of the ball, and there was plenty of it. However, we should give some credit to the players and staff of the Tigers. Missouri played hard, and they left everything they had on the field, and even on a bad night, the Dawgs took control at the end. Maybe, that exertion of command is what we should be looking at after two games that could quickly have gone the way.

No matter how one tries to rationalize the Missouri and the Kent State games, the stark reality of giving up 44 points to Kent and Mizzou after allowing just 10 points in the first three games of 2022 is worrying.

Injuries have hurt, but that is why Coach Smart and his staff spend so much time and money recruiting quality depth. Football is violent, and the result of SEC games is injuries for all league teams. Managing player health is a coaching responsibility, just like other aspects of the game.

Even though it was not pretty, the win column is one digit larger. The Dawgs survived the Missouri onslaught and are still undefeated. At this point, that is all that matters. Indeed, the talking heads will wonder what’s wrong with Georgia. The Dawgs seem likely to drop in the polls, and that will cause much consternation among fans.

Despite our worry, fear, or maybe anger, the Georgia Bulldogs are undefeated as we move to the sixth game of the season. Auburn will arrive in Athens having managed to slip by Mizzou by 17-14 only two weeks ago. After Auburn, Vandy visits Athens, and the Dogs have a bye week before the contest in Jacksonville. Time to heal, practice, and allow Kirby Smart and staff to correct the mistakes and prepare for the run to the SEC Championship.
