Another trip to the absolute worst stadium in the South ends with a historic win for the Dawgs. It seems that a school renowned for its engineering prowess could fix it or bulldoze their memorial to faded glory and start over – just as they are attempting to do with their football program.
Moving on: I’ll bet that many, if not most of you thought or verbalized “here we go again” at some point in the second quarter. It sure looked like the UGA offense was retreating into its shell, but – again – the defense maintained control until their teammates on the other side of the ball got themselves together and pulled away in the second half. Just before the horn, a fellow member of the UGA beat commented, “Do you think LSU will be concerned when they watch this tape?” I didn’t have to answer.
My favorite game moment: In the fourth quarter with Tech on their own two, the Jackets ran what they considered a ‘safe’ handoff straight up the middle. Georgia, by this time, was subbing freely, and one would think that Tech could punch out a few yards before punting. However, linebacker Nate McBride and defensive lineman Bill Norton defeated their blocks – penetrated – and simultaneously met the Techie at the half-yard line, driving him back into the endzone. No safety, but a great play.

McBride, a junior, was a Parade All-America honorable mention coming out of Vidalia High but has contributed mostly on special teams at UGA. Norton is a 6-6/285 true freshman from Memphis who was a four-star recruit. He has played in three games (counting Tech) and appears headed for a redshirt – and a significant role next season.
SEC Championship: If you believe the national pundits, Georgia has zero chance of winning the SEC Championship Game. Zero! Zip! Nada! Let’s hope that every media outlet in the country jumps on the ‘LSU blowout’ bandwagon. It is always better to be underestimated, and LSU might just buy-in to the message.
The SCECG will be all about the defense for UGA – both Georgia’s and LSU’s. Several teams have put points on the board against the Tigers, but have not been able to slow the Bengals’ potent offense. IF, a huge ‘if,’ the Bulldogs can hold them under 30 they will have a punchers chance to pull off the upset – hold them under 20 and it will the LSU trying to come back late in the game.
