UGA vs VANDY BASEBALL: The sixth-ranked Commodores clinched an SEC series over the Georgia Bulldogs with a 10-3 win Saturday in front of a crowd of 3,470 at Hawkins Field.

The Commodores (33-10, 12-8 SEC) built a 6-1 lead through the first four innings. Connor Kaiser got the scoring started with a two-out, two-run triple in the second inning. He would come home on a wild pitch. In the third, Julian Infante notched an RBI-double and Tyler Campbell had one of his own as part of a two-run fourth. Vanderbilt has 12 extra base hits in the series.

Sophomore Kyle Wright, who entered the contest with a 1.88 ERA in 52.2 innings, went seven innings and allowed a season-high three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts to improve to 5-3 on the year. Georgia junior Connor Jones allowed seven runs (only four earned) on 10 hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings to fall to 5-4. Georgia had cut it 6-3 in the seventh before Vanderbilt put the game out of reach with a four-run outburst in the eighth on only one hit off the Bulldog bullpen. Vanderbilt’s bullpen combined for two scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

“We had some momentum going to the eighth and then we just imploded,” Ike Cousins Georgia baseball head coach Scott Stricklin said. “We had a walk, a hit by pitch, threw one away, a wild pitch that cost us, we have got to play better baseball. The game could’ve been different. We have to do a better job offensively, defensively and on the mound.”

Georgia (22-22, 7-13 SEC) got on the scoreboard in the third courtesy of a two-out, RBI-single by senior Nick King. It extended his hitting streak to six games. The Bulldogs were held to just three hits until senior Daniel Nichols smacked a leadoff double in the seventh and then junior Stephen Wrenn followed with a two-run blast over the green monster in left field. It marked Wrenn’s fourth home run of the year and ended a bizarre streak of 21 consecutive solo home runs by the Bulldogs. Wrenn’s blast was the first with a runner on by a Bulldog since March 8, a span of 31 games.

The Bulldogs look to salvage the Sunday game in the series with first pitch scheduled for 2:04 p.m. ET (SECN+).
