Who are the Gamecocks to watch in the Georgia-South Carolina game on Saturday?
JAKE BENTLEY (QB, #19)
This 6-3, 223-pound sophomore skipped his senior season at Opelika (Ala.) High School to enroll in college early and started the final seven games as a freshman at Carolina last season, when he passed for 1,420 yards and nine touchdowns, with four interceptions. And Bentley got off to a good start this season, completing 60 percent of his pass attempts. The Georgia defense will clearly have to bring pressure on Bentley Saturday between the hedges.
SKAI MOORE (ILB, #10)
This 6-2, 221-pound senior led the Gamecocks in tackles in 2013, ’14 and ’15 before missing the 2016 season with a neck injury. A second-team All-SEC selection, Moore is back causing trouble for opposing offenses this season and is at the top of the South Carolina tackle chart along with fellow sophomore linebacker T.J. Brunson.
D.J. WONNUM (DE, #8)
Wonnum is a 6-4, 248-pound sophomore who has really blossomed for the Gamecock defense this season. Among the SEC leaders in tackles-for-loss, Wonnum was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for consecutive weeks for his outstanding performances in wins over Arkansas and Tennessee. Georgia needs to have a plan to keep this guy out of the Bulldogs’ backfield Saturday afternoon.
WILL MUSCHAMP (Head Coach)
In his second season as head coach of the Gamecocks, Georgia native Muschamp will be back in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, where he played in the defensive backfield for the Bulldogs from 1991-94. Regarded as an outstanding defensive mind, Muschamp is a 22-year coaching veteran, including 14 years in the SEC. In his five seasons as a head coach at Florida and South Carolina, prior to this season, Muschamp posted a 34-28 record and led Florida to three bowl games in his four seasons there. He has the Gamecocks off to a solid start in the SEC East this season and, of course, would love nothing better than to return to his alma mater and knock off the unbeaten Bulldogs on Saturday.
