The Georgia women’s basketball team have Gator on the menu for today, as the Lady Bulldogs rumble with Florida at 12 noon in Gainesville at the Exactech Arena.
THE OPENING TIP
Having won five of its last seven games, the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team wraps up the 2016-17 regular season at Florida with a noon ET tip on ESPNU this Sunday.
The Lady Bulldogs have secured either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed in next week’s SEC Tournament. Georgia clinches the No. 7 seed and will play on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET with a win against the Gators.
Under second-year head coach Joni Taylor, the Lady Bulldogs have already exceeded many expectations as far as the SEC standings go. League coaches picked Georgia to finish 12th in the conference’s preseason poll.
Georgia has won back-to-back overtime thrillers at Stegeman Coliseum and owns a league-best 6-1 record in games decided by five points or less this season.
The Lady Bulldogs’ late-season surge can be credited in part to two All-SEC nominees in Pachis Roberts and Caliya Robinson. Roberts is the only SEC player to rank in the top-15 of the league in scoring, rebounding and steals. Robinson has scored in double figures in seven-straight games, averaging 17.7 ppg and 8.4 rpg during that span.
This is the second meeting of the season between these two programs. Florida won the first game, 76-68, on Jan. 22 in Athens. The Lady Bulldogs have won seven of the last 10 and three of the last four against the Gators.
